Insurance while stored for winter

Is there any reason to keep your insurance active when putting the rig away for the winter??

I would.
Damage could occur from snow, rain, hail, etc.
Someone accidently run into yours parked.
Mice / Rat Damage
Vandalism

I'm sure there is other reasons, but the only ones I could think of at the moment.

and if you're like me, and your trailer is financed, it's required by the lien holder to maintain insurance during the duration of the finance note

I would leave it in place.

My separate rv policy with full coverage and replacement value is ~$200 year. If a unit is in storage for 1/2 year, it would not be worth it to me having to deal with my insurance company 2 more times a year canceling and renewing to save $100.

We had a big tree limb fall on a car parked here in the driveway... The HOME OWNERs insurance covered the damage. WE use STATE FARM for everything...

I would have expected the CAR insurance to cover it???

Considering the relatively low price of RV insurance for 3 to 4 months, Keep it covered. Trust me, damage can happen in the strangest ways. Most of us have too much invested in our rigs to want to take the chance.

I wouldn't drop it, but mine is only $110 a year. Even if it were much more, I'd still keep it insured when stored. Crap happens- when you least expect it. What if a thief breaks in, hurts themselves and sues you for providing him "unsafe conditions" while he was robbing you?

We just checked with our State Farm agent, and found out that they will suspend the collision coverage for as long as we want, at no charge. So we're suspending it for the months that it won't be on the road, which will save us about 400.00 dollars.


When were getting ready to use it again, we just call them, and tell them to start it again. Great way to save money!

Just to add another "anything can happen..."

The lot where we store our trailer recently had a car accident next to it and one of the cars in the accident crashed through the fence an hit the tops of 3 trailers.

So yea, anything can happen.

I take my collision off for the winter but keek the comp. on it in case anything happens to it in the yard.

This is what we do. It saves me about 75 percent if I recall correctly, during that time period. I also do this with my old car.

Talk with you agent about the pros and cons. Find out what is and is not covered.

Insurance Companies access risk and the risk is in their favor that you will not have a claim. But you never know what the future will bring.......

My buddy took his ins off his garage parked Harley for the winter... the garage burned to the ground... No coverage and he was left with 3 years worth of payments.. it is a case of penny wise pound foolish... Keep it insured...

I keep mine year round but it's not much through Erie. Even parked something could happen....

Save $400??? How much is your insurance? I only pay $300 a year for full coverage.

The issue here is what if your RV is run into by another vehicle? That has to be picked up by collision coverage, not comprehensive.

Insured year round cause I just never know when I might get a burr under my saddle and exit corporate life or the northern cold in favor of gypsy life. Wouldn't want a phone call to the agent to delay the departure ��

I thought the $400 savings was an eye opener. I don't think I pay that much total for the whole year. But then I get savings for having, house, multiple vehicles, and recreational vehicle.
