My SOLAR panels are pumping 18Amps (MPPT at the battery) while traveling with the fridge running off the inverter while traveling. Maye not a constant drain, but for a majority of the trip.

How long is the ferry ride. The fridge/freezer, if not opened will stay cold/frozen for a long period of time.

So the question is, can I run 20 amp through trailer plug to run inverter. The car can definitely deliver it...

As a matter of fact, your fridge DOES operate on 120VAC exacltly the same as when you are running on propane.

Without getting into all the details of how a gas absorption fridge works, accept that heat is used to boil (distill) gaseous ammonia from a mixture of ammonia and water.

Now for the 2-way and 3-way part:
- A propane flame can heat the water/ammonia mixture
- A 120VAC heating element can heat the water/ammonia mixture
- A 12VDC heating element can heat the water/ammonia mixture

As mentioned, 12VDC is barely more effective than the insulation alone.

We used to run 4 hours with the fridge off. Now I keep the propane on.

I have plugged my whole 5th wheel into my inverter.
The RV refer on AC pulls about 20 amps from the batteries. (I have a meter with a shunt off the batteries.)
My truck has a 10 gauge wire for charging and at the long run to the batteries supplies about 10 amps charge max.....

I just run on the propane. Have for over 20 years. My folks have done it for 40 years. The new tanks are much safer with the shutoff if there is a major leak. Only turn ff for tunnels and ferries.
