Jay Feather Micro 171BH

Hey folks! I know that the Jayco 171BH Jay Feather Micro is a brand new unit. Iíve tried to search the forum and canít find much about the unit. Iím trying to find a lightweight option with twin bunks for my two kids. This camper seems to have a lot of amenities in such a small package. 55 gallon tank, 190W solar panel, large fridge, sink in the bathroom, more storage than competitors and so on. Has anyone else looked at this camper or bought one? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks. Andy

Pick mine up hopefully this month! Will check back when I get it home. I haven’t found anything better from a no slide/bunk house standpoint. Closest is a Geo Pro, but even that is a 7/10 compared to the 171bh.

Hi, Claims to be prewired for an inverter. If so, where? (I heard under the mattress, which makes sense, battery on the other side of exterior wall) And what is it prewired to power? ie all plugs, microwave, etc. (I understand it depends on the size of the inverter being able to run certain things.)

Don’t know that yet, but there is a wiring bundle that looks very much like the spot right inside the door to pass through storage on camp side.

JayLo or Others - Coupler Height of the 171BH?

JayLo or anyone else who has access to a 171BH. Can you tell me or send me a picture of the height of the coupler on level ground? I am looking to get a WDH and need this height prior to ordering. Note: I just ordered my 171BH last weekend and am hoping to get some things ordered/sorted ahead of receiving my TT. Thank you in advance for your time all.

I would look at the Andersen hitch. Easy on and off, light weight, integrated and extremely effective sway control. They have a short and long hitch insert to adjust to your height, but you still have to know your vehicle height and ball height to figure which one. Great customer service.
What are you going to tow with?

That is the WDH I plan to purchase unless others can convince me otherwise. I think for the easy on/off and weight benefits, the Andersen might be the best for my application. I will be towing my 171BH with a 2019 Ford Raptor Supercab. The distance to the top of my hitch is 23" (note I have upgraded Stage 3 Icon leaf springs installed; therefore, if you have a stock Raptor you might have a hitch height of a couple of inches lower) and the distance to the bottom of the ball of the 171BH is 21" (thank you JayLo for that measurement). Did you RogerR or anyone here use an Andersen WDH on their 171BH or comparable TT? If so, I would be curious to speak with you more about it (please PM me). Thanks again all, you guys have been great so far and I am looking forward to being part of this community.

Jaylo. What’s your tongue weight on the unit? If you have dry and loaded, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Andy

The pre-wire powers the plugs located at 3 places…
Dinette, full bed pop-up plugs, kitchen plugs on side near entrance.
I have an inverter appt to install on Oct 26.
Most likely install location is in the storage pass thru.
Near batteries.

The 171BH comes with the large propane tanks (30lb?). If you don’t need them, drop to the normal 20lb. Less weight.

171bh

Iím headed out on Tuesday, 10/05/21 for a 6 night excursion. Brand new 171BH. 600 mile round trip, towed by 2021 Ram 1500, 5.7L. WDH
Shoot me your questions and Iíll try to answer them.
Noticed the 2 bunks have AC powered USB plugs. No info/literature on this feature.
Iím having a 2000w Xentrex installed on 10/26/21 by dealer, most likely in the storage pass thru. Pre-wire powers 3 plugs, bed, dinette, kitchen.
My Griddle is supposed to be shipped Oct/Nov.
Bunks great size for kids, not so much for adults. Iím 5í6Ē, 155lbs. I could sleep in top bunk. Bottom bunk, window but wonít open.
Main windows face away from camp side.

Love to hear how that trip goes! AND the inverter install. Here are some photos of my set up for fun. My hitch is a GenY/E2 mashup. I just re-caulked entire trailer and flex sealed the F out of every screw, etc. if you are buying one of these and end up in this thread, you need to know some things, hit me up.

Carpets

Minor prep work to my 171 BH trailerÖ
Re-purposed some carpeting from house for the bathroom and for the dinette from a previous trailer.
Iím also running 2 x 6V 225 amp/hr batteries in series.
Pulled 3 of the privacy curtains out too, just donít need them, no kids.

JayLo. I certainly like the countertop extension. I may have to steal that idea. My family is still deciding between the 171BH and the 174BH. I drive a Grand Cherokee with a Hemi V8 which can tow 7,200#’s. My main concern is tongue weight. The 174 is much lower than the 171. With wife and kids, I’d need to keep the tongue weight below 600#’s. Considering most people say tongue weight should be 10-12% of total weight, I think I’d be ok. My wife hates that there is no sink in the bathroom and she also thinks the dinette is too small for 2 adults and 2 kids. Since the 171 is wider I’m hoping the dinette is likewise bigger. From videos I’ve seen, they do state that there is more room around the table. Our plan was to order within the next few months before the price increase in January.

No, no, no, no. Your wife is right. The only thing the 174bh shares with the 171bh is that it a typical bunkhouse. The rest is absolutely incomparable. Not kidding, I would trade in my tow vehicle before I downgraded to the Jay Flight. I can’t even imagine how much of a cracker box the Jay Flight must be to be 1,000lbs lighter and carry 400 lbs less cargo. Just the bathroom alone. Once I saw the construction quality of a new RV, I would NEVER shower using just the walls. Just that alone, not to mention the lack of sink or bathroom storage. I could write a book about the differences in the rest of the trailer. Flight is for people who walk in to a dealership and want an rv, have done no research and need it to be light and cheap. Feather Micro is a legit feature rich trailer that hits nearly every box. Anyone on this thread who wants to talk shop about the 171BH, private message me and I will send you my cell!
