Make sure propane and battery are on, turn wall thermostat to desired temperature and furnace will start.

Perhaps the thermostat isn’t in the “on” position. I have to admit that in our HB 17RK the factory thermostat ‘s on/off switch was so stiff that to turn on the furnace I had to exert so much force that it felt like I was going to break it. My DW couldn’t do it. We replaced it with a Honeywell digital heat-only thermostat and things are much better.

Since installing the AGM deep cycle battery that’s got about 50% more AH than the original we haven’t been below 50% even dry camping for a 4 Day weekend.

Hitch Question for HB 17FD

Hitch Question: I ordered a HB 17FD and am trying to decide on a weight distribution hitch or not. I have two elderly pets so I'll be using a 1998 Ford Explorer (5.0L)to pull it until the pets are no longer with us and then a 2016 Silverado 1500 (4.3 with tow package) when it's just the wife and I. The dealer sells Blue Ox WD hitches for $900 but I see WD hitches for $300 on the internet and would be OK with setting it up myself. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wow! I do not think you need a $900 hitch for a Hummingbird. And, yes you can set it up yourself. Make sure it has a sway control and preferably one you do not have to disconnect to back up. (Avoid friction sway control.)

Hitch Question for 17FD

Thanks Murff. Would I need a weight distribution hitch at all? We pulled a 1500# popup and never had a problem. Just wondering...

J&J. I have a HB 17RB, TV is 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with OEM tow package. Had a 4K Equalizer hitch installed and makes the tow a breeze, no sway and secure. Hitch was ~ $725 installed. Never towed a TT w/out an Equalizer.

Anderson 'No-Sway' hitch worked wonderful with our FJ Cruiser and HB 17RK.

Still using it for the no sway function with our 2500HD.

I think HB's are in the sweet spot weight & length wise for the Anderson hitch.

No load bars to deal with and no need to unhook anything prior to backing up.

I'd definitely recommend a WD/Anti Sway hitch. My Tundra towed our 17FD ok without it, but after installing it and towing up a mountain with a 30-40 mph cross wind, I won't tow without one. I recommend checking ETRAILER.COM. I bought my Blue Ox WD for under $600..

Thank you for the responses. I'm getting an education on WD hitches. I like how the Andrsen hitches look and the reviews I've read. I'll probably go that route. Thanks again!!

Tundra, just wondering if you have had any issues with your HB. Haven't you owned it about 2 years?

you are specifying some warranty issues - are others experiencing this? we take delivery of a 17RK in early 2018

17RK

Nope, We picked it up November of last year, so it's been one year.

We've camped about 30 nights since.

We've had three very minor repairs done to it under warranty.

Warranty work done since new:

1. Refrigerator door replaced due to the original trim being faded from the plastic protective film glue.

2. Outdoor shore power plug replaced due to the little blue LED light going out.

3. Outdoor vertical wiper seal on the back side of slide replaced due to the original having a small tear from getting caught up on the track.

The only critical repair that I made myself was remounting one of the marker lights on the front/top of the TT. I noticed that it looked like the screw had stripped out on one side and there was a gap that could allow water to get past the gasket. When I got up there I found that the holes are cut fairly large in the fiberglass and they had missed on one of the screws, so it was wedged on the side of the light cutout instead of having its own hole through the surface. I centered the light and drilled two new pilot holes and screwed the light back down properly. I then took a small brush and my can of clear ProFlex sealant and coated the top edge and sides of all the marker lights where they contact the fiberglass.
