Jayco to go w/Ford F150 2.7 Ecoboost
Hi - I'm starting a new post here based on more key learnings regarding my new truck. I have a 2016 2.7 Ecoboost Supercrew Lariat with the 3.55 gearing and tow package (not the max tow package). The door jamb sticker says "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 1443 lbs". And then other sticker that states GVWR as 6500 LB.
I was originally interested in the 24RKS White Hawk as I prefer the fiberglass/aluminum over the more traditional stick/tin. But am thinking this is going to be too much camper for my truck to haul. Are there any other Jaycos that would be a better fit weight wise for my truck? My main requirements are a regular shower configuration (so NO wet bath) and a queen size bed.
I really want to get a Jayco but wondering if there is something else I should be considering. FYI, this is my first travel trailer.
Thanks for your help!

Subaru297 - No kids. Mostly two adults and 1 medium sized dog. There could be occasions to have up to 3-4 adults but that would be for a short trip. I foresee times where it could be dry camping and full hook up camping.
I'll look harder at the Jay Feather.
Thanks!

RV Itch - Resources
Go to the bottom right of this webpage, and pull the excel spreadsheet down. Enter all the info that it asks, and you'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not you'll be ok. As with all things weight related, a trip to the CAT scales reveals all, but this should get you in the right ballpark at the very least; more often then not it'll get you to the infield.

In order of priority:
1. What can your receiver handle? Usually a sticker on it, indicating with and without a Weight Distributing Hitch.
2. From your payload (1443) subtract the weight of you and all passengers, add-ons since the truck rolled off the line (bed liner, steps, etc.), required stuff in the truck -tools, more camping gear, etc. Multiply the result times 6.66 This gives you the max GVW for a trailer, based on a 15% tongue weight. Or, take the advertised empty tongue weight of the proposed trailer, add 100 lbs for propane and battery, and another 100 for the WD Hitch, then subtract from your remaining payload answer, and multiply that number by 6.66 - which will give you roughly how much stuff you can load into the trailer.
3. Once you've guesstimated how much the trailer will weigh, then worry about whether it is within the tow rating.
Most trucks can pull far, far more than they can actually carry.

Your tow rating is likely 8-9000lbs, but you will be limited by your payload rating of 1443lbs.
Basically, you, plus your passengers and your cargo and tongue weight of your trailer cannot exceed a combined weight of 1443lbs. So if you and your family and cargo add up to 1000lbs, that leaves you 443lbs for tongue weight.
If you can pack the truck lightly and you have a small family, you can get your number down to 800lbs, leaving 643lbs for tongue weight.
Once you figure out what the "wet" weight of your truck is, then you'll know how much tongue weight you can handle and therefore what type of trailer you can tow within Ford's specifications.
Your limit will not be the weight of the trailer, your limit will be the tongue weight of the trailer.
My 2016 F150 has the higher payload, my sticker is 1853lbs, so that opens up a few more doors.
I'm sure you'll find something you like, but keep that tongue weight in mind.

We have a 2018 Jayco 232 RB and a 2017 F150 2.7 Ecoboost 4x4. When purchasing our first TT we checked with the dealer to make sure our tow vehicle could handle it. They assured us that we have plenty of room. The dry weight of the 232 Rb is 4300 pounds. With full tanks we are around 5800 pounds and still room.
We love the layout for us, it's just my wife and I and our large husky dog. She usually claims the couch when we are not on it. We liked the large bathroom in the rear of the trailer.
Our hitch is a Husky Center Line and it keeps our trailer nice and straight behind our truck. We can go 70 on the highway and not even notice it.
We have yet to take it to the mountains yet.

Do your own research when a dealer tells you your truck can tow his rig!

I tow a 2018 Jay Flight SLX 26BH with our 2016 F150 Super Crew, 2.7 Eco. I have a Husky WD hitch. Seems to be a solid set up, though I wouldn't go much heavier.
