Jayflight SLX 195RB Bed Modification

As in my previous post, wife was complaining about the bed sagging in the center, and their were others in agreement. Sunday we took the mattress off and actually layed on the bed, and yes, the thin plywood does sag. Others have said they added two X fours across, so that was my original plan, except i was going with 2 X 3 too reduce weight. After going to Home Depot and getting materials, i started looking at ithe entire bed yesterday, and came out with another idea. I decided to add support under the bed, where it is most needed. So what i did was build a wall in the centre, not only acting as a support, but also seperating inside and outside storage. Needless to say, the plywood bed is somewhat warped, so had to do a bit of trimming on the centre of my seperation. Now, going to go one step further in the spring, going to replace the flimsy plywood with a thicker piece, and where my new support is, i am going to cut the wood from side to side, and hinge it there, making the front of the bed permanent, and only the inside will lift up, because i never need to access items in the front from inside. This will make for a stronger bed, plus alot less bed to lift from inside when you need to get something. I have posted some pictures of my supporting wall on my profile page ....it did the trick, bed is much sturdier now. Will be testing it out this weekend.

Ok, got back today from our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and the first chance to try out the bed with the new support. Perfect to say the least. Sleeping was so much better, and to those who are changing the Denver mattress, it's not the mattress, it's the thin plywood bed that sags. What a huge difference, heck, i even slept in the 3 mornings, and i never do when i am camping. After 3 outings with this Jayflight, it just keeps getting better and better! We love this Jayco.
