Lost Key
I have a 2010 Jayco 199 and Ive lost one of the keys.
Anyone have any problem replacing keys? My dealer said they have blanks but cant cut the key.
Can hardware stores cut this type of key? Any thoughts?

I should mention that it is the entry key. How much was the blank? My dealer said $15 for blank. Sounds kinda high to me!

I think I paid about 15 bucks for both and 2 bucks each to cut.

You gotta remember what you're buying. They're "specialty" keys and have a limited "audience" along with a limited number of places you can buy one. It's not like a Kwikset, Schlage, Yale or other commonly used lockset key that you can have cut at any Home Depot, Lowes or hardware store. Hence the hefty price. It's the old "law of supply and demand".
I always think of RVing as a hobby; and you almost always pay more for anything associated with a hobby. Take, for example, the pressure relief valve on your RV's HWT. Your HWT at home (if you have one) is equipped with the same thing. Yet, what you pay to replace the relief valve in your RV is many times more than the one in your house will cost when you buy it from an RV store.
If you think $15 is expensive for an RV key, you're going to get a real big surprise if you have to have a vehicle key made that has an anti-theft device built into it.

I made some extra sets for mine right after I got it. I think they were less than $5 each and they cut at a local dealer. $15 sounds way high, I bet if you try another dealer it would be a much better price.
Heck - an entire new lock set with two keys is just over $30.....

A lot of RV shows have someone selling and cutting keys. You might also check the internet for a blank.

Any good key cutting service will have blanks and will be much cheaper than going to a RV dealer. My nephew cuts my keys for me and I only pay him for the blanks. Two bucks each.

We lost of set of keys on our 2006 Jayco. For us, I simply removed (unscrewed) the door lock from the inside and obtained the lock number - off the lock assembly rear panel. Think its a 4 digit number. I took this number to my local RV dealer and within 5 days, they ordered me another key. If your local lock smith is unable to cut a key (or is too costely), you could possibly order a a duplicate key from your RV dealer. Plan A or backup Plan B thing. Good luck...

I realize because its a "RV" item It will be expensive, Been camping for 4 years.
Will check with local store to check on blanks before going to rv dealer. And by the way, just bought a replacement key for DW's car.......$75 for the blank!!!!! Ouch.

If I remember correctly, I paid $10 for a 2nd (3rd) key - because my wife lost her key. I simply gave them the TT's lock number (from the TT's lock assembly) and they sold me the key 5 days later. If your RV dealer wants more then $10, I'd find a different RV dealer.

I looked at my key and it say "Bauer" on it. I Googled and found their site. http://www.bauerproducts.com/replacementkeys.php It says they are $2.50 each plus shipping and handling. I would just give them a call and see what they say.

I purchased the blanks to get an extra set cut, but so far I have been denied by a hardware store and Lowes. I was told to go see a lock smith. I will check another hardware store first. My two blanks were $6 each.

Just curious. Were you denied because: - Their key machine was incapable of cutting your key blank?
- They were not permitted (or unwilling) to cut keys using blanks purchased elsewhere?

As luck would have it, I found my set of keys but Im having the extra blank cut anyway. Ended up having a locksmith cut the key for me (tommorow).
As per earlier post by FPM III, Lowes told me they did not have a jig for that blank as well as Ace hardware.

I was denied because the blank would not fit the machine.
