LP tank mounting

Pulled the TT into the driveway this past weekend to start doing all the small repairs, cleaning, and prep for our first trip out this season. One of items on my to do list was replace/repair one of the cracked angle iron that runs across the trailer tounge that holds the single LP tank. I cut out and ground down the damage angle iron and purchaced a thicker 1"x1"x36" piece from Lowes to replace with. Will drilling and running decent sized self tapping screws suffice attatching this back to the frame? Welding would be prefered but no access to a welder at this time. Thanks

I changed the angle iron that holds the battery to the top side of the frame so I had enough room to add a second battery. All I used were self tapping screws and they held fine. I would try to use at least a 3/16 self tapper or bigger.

You might want to put a lock washer under the head as some people complain of these vibrating loose.
The other option is to drill through and use bolt, nut and lock washer. 5/16" or 3/8" would be more than sufficient.

Best regards,
Doug

You can buy a cheap welder at Harbor Freight for $85. You can also find 20% off coupons. I say just do it right. You never know when you'll need a welder!

Good call on the lock washers. Got everything re-mounted/secured back in place and feels very solid.
