New Owner of 165 Sport

Just upgraded from a T@B teardrop to a 165 sport very happy to step up to a real camper. Have lots of newbie questions is this the right place to post? I was mainly interested in seeing how other owners have added tv's and bike racks to their 165's. Or any other cool mods. I'm on cloud nine to step up and have a real kitchen, and a bathroom and shower. Tell me the good And the bad of this model. Thanks

Is it ok to run the A/C hooked up to my house power in the driveway with the proper adapter? What about with a 30 amp extension cord? I'd heard somewhere it wasn't good to run them without being plugged into the proper supply. Just wanted to test some stuff out.

I have run my AC connected to my house with no issue. You just have to make sure that the circuit you are plugged into at the house can handle the load. My AC unit is small so a standard household outlet is just fine. My trailer is wired for 30A so I just put an adapter on and run an outside extension cord.

Congrats! I upgraded from a popup to my hybrid and laaawdy! I love the bathroom, extra storage and all the 'luxury" compared to what I had before. I feel your excitement!
Get a toaster oven at Walmart for $27 that will bake small pizzas and cookies. I store mine beneath a bench seat.

Does your new rig have a rooftop antennae? This was new for me and this weekend I watched my newly hooked-up TV at the campground. Love it - enjoy.

Yes it has the antenna, I just played with it tonight. It raises higher than I thought never dreamed it was so complex. Couldn't tell how to turn it on if it comes on or is powered. I wasn't sure if TV signals were still broadcast this way. I live in Ky maybe not around here but in big cities. I went to my RV dealer today looking at accessories and they had a portable dish or direct satellite dome that was $650. Not sure how that works with a box but it looked cool.

Whatever wattage your A/C is rated...divide by 100 for amps. I have the 5,000 watt wall unit and it draws 4 amps while the compressor is running.

You can pick-up a surprising amount of Digital channels if your near a town. Set your HDTV coax input to "antenna"...run a coax patch cable from the HDTV input to the antenna jack...if you have have a little black button on the TT antenna jack - press it and a lite should come on....it's a television signal amplifier. Point your antenna toward town and use the signal search feature on your HDTV.....

Happy Camping

Welcome to the 165 club! When we carry bikes (4) we just put some cardboard along the sides and tie them together then cover them up.

We have a 2010 Sport 165 and enjoy it. We camp 100 days a year. I pull it from Phoenix to Corpus Christi, TX and camp there for the entire months of May and October. And each summer we pull it to Washington/Idaho for a month. This summer we will pull it to Virginia, back to Idaho, returning to Arizona.

Pro's:
- pulls nicely without sway/weight distribution gear
- 10-13 mpg at 65 mph
- terrific layout, particularly bunk beds and removable "pole" supported round table
- can do u-turns easily; small parking spot requirement.

Con's:
- no sink in bathroom (my wife's issue)
- 13" tires (my issue)
- must keep cargo weight in RV to a minimum

We powered our X23 that way many times. When running the A/C I found that it would trip the house breaker if I used a 15A circuit but was OK on a 20A. I doubt that I could have run the A/C and microwave at the same time tho.

I put 14-inch wheels and tires on my 2010 Sport 165. I discussed my rationale for doing so in this thread. Tire selection and availability are much improved. I don't regret it a bit.

Had one for 7 years and used it quite a bit with no problems other than lightning hitting the radio. Only thing I didn't like was the ground clearance as I used it for hunting trips. Don't know if you can put larger tires on it but that would be great. Only other problem is that it towed so well behind my Silvarado truck that I occasionally forgot it was there.

I just bought one too!! Mine is an 08 model. I can run my Ac off the a normal outlet, but this is in my shop and on a 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire to begin with. I overkilled it when I built it years ago. I just ran a heavy extension cord (12 gauge) with a 30 amp adapter to the TT. 120 volts is all it takes. You just need a big enough breaker in the hose and proper wire to send the amps. 14 gauge wire (in most houses) will send 30 amps. But most house breakers are 15 or 20 amps. The AC takes about 16 amps to start but then will run on about 12 according to the book. Last week I installed a proper 30 amp service on the side of my shop to keep it plugged in.
As far as the rear bumper, the manual plainly states do NOT put anything on it. It is not rated to carry any weight other than the spare tire. That being said, I also have plans to add a platform to it and keep the coolers or tote boxes, etc. on it, but I have to look into beefing it up with proper support. If I decide to do this I will probably completely remove it and put in a heavy duty square tube, and either bolt it or weld it to the frame with gussets for support. Jury is still out on whether or not I want to do this modification. I can do it myself, just don't know if I want to.
