Question New RV'er with Black water question.

We arrived at a state park in our, new to us, 2012 White Hawk. The black water tank lights indicated empty and an occasional flash of 1/3. When we left our camp two weeks ago, with full hook up, I did as taught and drained the black water then the grey water and used the built in flusher. The tanks all drained completely and I flushed till the water was clear. Now at the park we are only using toilet for #1 and after 24 hours I have a 2/3 light. I looked through the forums and followed the suggestion of looking in the toilet (duh, so simple). I have a long handle that I gently placed in the to see water depth and it was only maybe an inch on the stick. It looks like it's not far from the bottom of the toilet pipe. After all that my question; are the light giving false reading of 2/3 and do I have plenty of space if just going #1. I am guessing the tank is wide across the rear of the trailer. Any pointers?

Not to worry they never seem to work correctly even on the 250K rigs. The black water sensor will give a false reading first but as you know just looking down the hole gives you a good idea how full it's getting. #1 only uses maybe 12oz. Per flush( just guessing ) cause that's me and that gives us about 10 days easy. Now the grey tank(mine gives a false reading also) could be a bigger problem because there's no hole to look down to check level. The first place it will back up is the shower pan so don't leave dirty towels or close in there ( nothing is good).

The sensors usually get toilet paper on them and then never work properly. A friend of mine had the same problem and took their trailer back to the dealer and had their sensor replaced and it is back to the Same problem.

Thank you. I will flush it real good upon leaving tomorrow and maybe that will help get any paper off sensors.

Too bad that you pay as we do for these things and important feature like the poo water sensor is not reliable. Could be trouble. Thank you.

The tank on our Skylark has a baffle inside that doesn't let you actually see the bottom of the tank so your stick idea wouldn't work very well to get a true depth reading. With two of us, we can normally go 3-4 days without dumping without a problem. Our sensors are erratic as well.

Ok. So I drained everything when we left the state park today. I opened the black tank valve and let it flush till it was a trickle, then I opened the first grey water tank then the second. Once it was done draining I closed all of the valves then connected a hose to the built in sewer flusher and let it fun for a couple minutes then opened the black water valve again. Looked in the toilet - dry. Pressed the button on the panel and it ready E for all tanks. I drove home and now my black water reads 1/3. I looked in the toilet - dry. I don't get it. Is it just the goofy sensors? I have the dealership doing some warranty service on it soon; should I say something or is it going to be the same with a new sensor.

Any advice is appreciated.

The sensors on everything that I've been around are faulty!! After you have used the unit for a period of time, you will get a good feel for how long you can go before dumping the tanks. I don't even look at the indicators anymore. We can go from 7 to 9 days with our use habits. Everyone is slightly different. I wouldn't waste my time or money replacing them.

Agree w/ Ela1948. Soon as you know how many days you have until dumping, the sensor reading is irrevelevent.

Black tank flusher is the best addition to these trailers since round tires. If the flush doesn't work, might leave that water in the back tank while traveling home. Really let that water flush the sensors for while.

Our trailer storage facility has a dump station. I've carried fluids home and drained before putting up for storage. Good luck!
