Patched hot water tank (re-insulate)

Hi ... did a bad thing. After 7 years, forgot to empty the hot water tank. Now there is a beautiful smile across the length of it (9" rip). Got it welded for $150; optional was a new one for $800.

Issue now is insulation. I had to tare off the styrofoam to get it out, so it is all in pieces and in the garbage. Was thinking of just using some pipe insulation and taking that on ... anyone have other options ?

As well, anyone know;

- type of putty used for around the gas line coming into the unit.
- tape putty used around the rectangular seal to put it back in (behind the screws).

Thanks

As long as it is well insulated it will save on heating cost. Tops for you: 150 is better than 800. I'm sure you'll never forget to drain.

Use Yellow Teflon tape for LPG threads.
