poor ground clearance

I have a 2012 Swift 145RB with extremley low ground clearance and dropped spindles on the axle just wonder if anyone flipped the axle( converted these over to the underside of the spring).

WE have a 2012 184 which is also very low, I noticed a 2013 at the dealers and it has much more ground clearance than ours. not sure how that was done, but I would be interested in raising ours a bit if it was not a huge job.......happy camping!

Thanks I know Dexter axles sells a mod kit too flip the axle, to go from over to under the spring and I have asked Jayco if this would void the warranty but I have not heard back from them yet. This should lift 3 to 4 inches .

Just as an fyi the only axels that can be " flipped" are the ones with springs, the "torflex" style must be removed and have square tubing welded to the frame and then reinstall the axels. Not easy but doable by an qualified welder. Larry ps Thats the way we did our 19h.

Our 19h came with an already installed option of lift kit which brings it up 2" higher. Not a lot of dealers order them with this option.

Bringing back to life an old thread...

Anybody have any experience with doing this?

My dealer told me it is a mod that they will do for about $300. I have scraped my 184BH a few times now leaving campsites and once in a neighborhood.

Seems like this mod would help, just not sure of the negatives (if any) associated with the change....

We had the dealer swap the axle in our 185rb and you get 3-4" of additional clearance. The issues are that the stabilizer and tongue jacks need blocks to make up the difference. Another issue is that you may need an additional step for climbing up into the trailer. All well worth it for me.

Oh I hadn't thought of that one. Thanks for the reply and the validation on the change.

Few questions....

Did you actually flip the Axel or did you just move the supports?

Any welding?

Is your trailer a 184BH?

We have the 25 Z which has torsion bar suspension. While the TT is probably 5-6 inches lower than most, we have never scraped ground anywhere. The windage down the road is reduced and there is little or no sway from passing trucks even when I forget to attach the sway bar. There is no way I would want to lift it higher.

I have a JayFeather Ultra Lite 16V. It has the dexter axle with the 2" lift. Still not enough room for a backroads dirt track trip. Welder said he would not recommend the extra steel plate to lift it, side loads may break the loads. I am having a regular axle/leaf spring installed instead, which should give me 6" of lift plus can go with larger wheel if I desire.

Picked up the Inches

Decided to get this done and had the dealer put the springs on the top of the axle. I am very happy with the results. We will see how it performs this season.

From 12" to 17" on back bumper

From 17" to 21.5" on the side
