Questions about hitch - Jay Flight 145rbw

We are in the process of purchasing a Jay Flight 145rbw. We will be towing with our 2019 Ford Edge ST (3500 two package) which the calculations indicate is fine. The Edge ST has a factory hitch. What do I need to purchase to bring this trailer home? Eventually we would like to get a weight distribution hitch but for now, what can I use/buy for a 100 miles round trip? Thank you!

I had a 2014 Edge SEL AWD with "tow package". Mine only had a 4 pin flat connector and not the 7-pin RV style. You may need to have that installed plus a brake controller and the associated wiring. The hitch weight will be close if not over. When I was active on an Edge forum nobody could seem to get a straight yes or no answer from Ford on WD hitches. IIRC the 2" hitch is only listed as a Class 2 receiver.

What is the max tongue weight allowed for your vehicle? Also, does Ford allow the use of a weight distribution hitch on your Edge? Answers to both of these questions can probably be found in your owner's manual. My 2019 Subaru Ascent had a 5,000 lb tow weight limit, with a 500 lb tongue weight limit, and I towed our 2019 154BH Baja Edition with no issues, but Subaru specifically stated to not use a weight distributing hitch due to its unibody construction, plus the vehicle came with electronic sway control. My 154BH usually had a weighed 350 - 365 lb tongue weight, so I had no issues for over 5,000 miles of towing this trailer.

Don't forget a brake controller. That was something I hadn't thought about.

I went with this in my ML350 TV and love it. Towed our 174BH with our 2015 ML 350 4matic for close to 800 miles so far in the last month on 3 different trips and no issues so far.

I never thought to see if my vehicle would allow a weight distribution hitch. Thank you. T

MMK Listen very carefully to me I just went through this exact thing. I towed our 145rb in the mid Atlantic for 2 years I wouldn't take it in the mountains I towed it once over when I got it an felt the Edge did it but didn't have a lot of left over power. This year I took out Edge in for service and walked out with a 2019 Ranger XLT FX4 its the wife's and she loves her truck more then any other car she has owned. We just got back from Yellowstone on a 16 day speed trip the ranger pulled our camper at 73 mph very happily it was turning about 2000 on the tach. The truck has all the power you need and room to grow in your next camper.
Message me and give you my full observations. Don

Most trailer tires have a speed rating of no more than 65mph, so I'd be very careful exceeding that, unless your trailer's tires are rated higher.
