SLX 185RB too low to ground.

I just acquired a SLX 185 RB and the trailer is too low to the ground at the axle. Not much road clearance. My question is: Can the axle be positioned under the leaf springs, and would that give it much ground clearance? Is there another solution?

Some of the SLX models in the "baja" series come OEM with "flipped" axles.....so yes it can be done and I would think this would be the solution you're hoping for.

And I believe the Baja option also comes with 15" wheels.

Both are correct - 15" on the 7 foot wide models and 16" on the 8 foot wide models. The flip axle will provide several inches additional clearance. Overall my 195RB Baja is 7 1/2" taller than the standard model.

Just curious what is the clearance that you are getting with the 185RB. I am getting a 174BH and am curious if I am going to have a problem with clearance as well.

Thanks

I did the axle flip using the Dexter kit on our 154bh, it raised the trailer by about 4,5 inches, other option is to get bigger tires/rims, that could get you about 1.5 inches

We are getting ready to do an axle flip on our 185RB. 4-5 inches would be great! I am always worried about the tank valves!!

When you say axle flip... don't flip the axle you buy new spring perches and weld them to the top of the axle and move spring to the topside. There is camber and toe built into the axle so flipping the axle will mess all that up.

Yes we know that is how to do it. We are just familiar with the term axle flip when doing this. That is how most people refer to it.

Didn't mean to make it sound like you didn't. I just hate that term because someone might not know that's all. My apologies.

FYI, dexter (the axle manufacturer) sells a kit that sits on the current spring supports, so no welding to is required (you can still weld them, but it's optinal)

kit cost is about 60$

I believe they refer to these as "Over/Under" conversion kits. On Dexter's site they are listed under the Suspension Components/Under 7K section. The kits are based on the axle tube size. You can also find them other places like etrailer.com.

You will need to look on your axle and find the plate or sticker which will list the model and serial number for it. If you can't locate what you need on Dexters site just send them an email with that info and what you are looking for and they will give you the kit part number. It should be pretty easy to find.
