SLX7 195RB Sway Control and Weigh Distribution Hitch

Just signed the papers on a 2018 195RB and the dealer is offering to install a Reese "Round Bar" WDH system which is supposed to be good for sway as well.

Funny conversation:
Salesguy (yelling across the room) "Hey Joe, what is the WDH that we install for the SLX7s?"
Partsguy "Reese"
Me "Which model?"
Salesguy "WHICH MODEL?"
Partsguy "The round bar ones"
Me "Model number and weight ratings?"
Salesguy "Good for 12,000 lb. I think, MODEL NUMBER?"
Partsguy "Don't know, the ones with the round bars"

Needless to day, I think I will have to do some research on my own before giving them $600 to install a WDH, the $600 seems reasonable but I want to make sure it is actually the right system for my new rig and my truck.

Question: What WDH and sway control do folks use on their SLX7s and are you happy with yours?

I use the Anderson WDH, which many find work well on the smaller/lighter trailers. https://andersenhitches.com/Catalog/...ion-hitch.aspx

I'm also using an Andersen on our 195RB Baja. Towed almost 23K miles over the last 4 seasons with it and it's been a very good hitch with excellent sway control. Lightweight, quiet, and easy to hook up.

X3 on the Anderson. Excellent hitch for that size trailer and so simple to use.

I also vote Andersen WDH! Really cut the sway in high winds going across Nebraska, Iowa and northern Colorado. Easy on and off, light weight, easy control variability. A winner over my last one with bars and no sway.

Interesting to watch semi's swaying from wind and not feel anything from my 195RB!

About 8,000 miles and still happy.

While you are looking at the hitch consider the Andersen leveler. Really better than backing up on wood blocks or plastic stacks.

On Andersen, I called a couple of times because mine slipped, they gave me help and suggestions. I finally broke down and drilled a stop hole on mine as I did not have anyone to weld it on. Wish I did that in the first place.

My leveler broke after about a year, called, they sent me a new one no charge.

I did replace the pin for the plate with one from the farm store that had a big handle and a locking hitch pin on a leash. A lot easier to use.

And one more from a former Andersen Hitch owner. It's perfect for your trailer!

I would use the Anderson hitch. You get for around $500.00 on Amazon. Easy to install.

None

Our "veteran" RV salesman told us that if you tow with a full size half ton pickup with LT rear tires(and not the car tires that most come with from the factory) that SLX7 trailers did not need WDH or sway control. He said spend that money on other accessories that you might need.

For the Anderson guys which model did you get? Does the universal 3, 4 ,5 6" bracket version work for the 195RB Baja? I keep forgetting to measure the frame.

"Veteran" RV salesmen are as trustworthy as new RV salesmen. I wouldn't tow any travel trailer without some kind of equalizer and sway control.

My opinion, and the "Veteran" RV salesman's are worth what you paid for them.

I had the universal brackets and they worked fine. Of note though - I had them tack welded per the optional step in the install manual to prevent repeated slipping.

I got the 3324. It depends on your tow vehicle and trailer heights (e.g., Baja or not). Mine was for 4Runner and Baja model. Their website is good for figuring model.

The welding is a great added step. We didn't and there has been no slippage issue. We thought we might want to move it to another trailer in the future.

If you have any doubts just call Andersen. They have great customer service people who will answer your question. Make sure you know the trailer hitch height when level and the exact height of your truck receiver when level. This will get you the exact model to order. PS I ordered stuff from them and it came quickly.
