Reason I ask, as you can see from other posts, if lithium batteries are in your plans the converter they have been shipping will not fully charge them. The correct converter cannot cost Jayco much more money, so my guess is theyre using up inventory. If I was ordering, and know what I know now, Id insist on the right converter. The good news is the solar controller is lithium compatible.

Yes, I've read a lot of that, and figure to go to a new converter if/when I go lithium. The LIS appears to be somewhat more readily available than the AD, and since I wouldn't be switching battery types after the initial switch I don't see any value in the AD version.

One thing I was going to go back and look at when I have the unit was something I think TomC posted about checking to make sure there isn't an extra wire on the back of the factory-installed converter. Do you know anything about that?

I do: mine had seven. I talked to WFCO and they indicated the the 8 wire is an older unit. The AD is the newest version and readily availible. I have one coming this week.

So, what's your reasoning on the AD vs LIS? My thinking was that I would never need the LA side of the AD, and hate to depend on the software to correctly figure things out when I can manually force it where I want it.

I get it. But don't you depend on software for the correct charging profile anyway? Don't know the answer. Anyway, AD is newest version, easy to find and reasonably priced.

I don't know either, but in general the (normal) software is just looking at voltage, but somehow this one is going to sense LA, AGM, or LI. How? Will the solar on at the same time confuse it? I don't know. The only review I can find talks about the fan noise being loud - it is unclear why the fan should be louder than on the standard the guy had before (8955 version). He mentions that there is a bit of difficulty in seeing the LED that tells you what mode it is in.

That will make yours a good test on whether the AD version is, in fact, noisier.

Back to my original question: I'm thinking Andersen at this point, but to order one I need the trailer frame size. Can anyone with a Jay Feather Micro tell me how tall their frame is (bottom to top, not ground to frame)? Andersen has units for 5 to 6 inch frame, and 3/4/5/6 inch with the latter being higher priced.

While I'm at it, ball size? (I would guess 2-5/16, but I hate to assume) What is the height to the top of the frame when level? Those, plus frame top-to-bottom are the three things needed for an Andersen WDH.

No answers here, but I figured out enough to order. First, ball size, asked and answered a few times on an FB forum and it is 2-5/16 as expected. Second, the frame height - available nowhere, but appears to be 5 inch. In any case the 5-6 inch version doesn't exist - it is 3/4/5/6 is true for both, with the difference being the rise/drop height on one vs the other. The 5-6 is a typical Amazon mistype (by Andersen, in all likelihood).

The drop/rise is unlikely to exceed 4 inches from the Grand Cherokee to the 166FBS, so that's what I ordered from Amazon, will be here Friday.

Now, answering the unasked question as to why I went with the Andersen, it has two pros and one con that are frequently mentioned. Pro: Lightest weight of any WDH, which matters to me with the GC towing; Probably easiest to use after installation. Con: Frequently mentioned are difficulties in getting weight to the vehicle front axle. Andersen owners debate that, but every case I've seen talks about the difficulty being with heavy trailers and/or tongue weight. So, that one issue is a non-issue for me.

Don, I was camping all weekend and just saw this thread. You will love the Andersen for all of the reasons you stated. No bars to fuss with and, as we get older, that's a biggie!

I tow a White Hawk 20MRB with a 5950 GVWR. The Andersen is great for trailers, IMHO, of under 7500 GVWR.

Only thing I may have done different was to order it directly from the Andersen website. Either way, they have great customer service, should you need it!

Thanks for the reply. In this case, Andersen is the seller, Amazon is the shipper, so I don't think it will matter that Andersen did not ship it. I'm a seller on Amazon in all three possible forms (Amazon as seller/shipper, Amazon as shipper me as seller, me as both seller and shipper, the latter with Amazon just the advertiser and collector of funds). In the Andersen Seller/Amazon Shipper scenario (called FBA) I guarantee you that Andersen will be able to see my order. You may already know this, but I thought I would expound a bit for the heck of it!

We just picked up a '21 24RL Feather that came with the Curt 17500 TruTrack w/built in Sway control. Previous owner tugged with a F150 we hooked up our Ram 1500 and the 250 mile trip home was a snap...towed beautifully.

https://www.amazon.com/CURT-17500-TruTrack-Trunnion-Distribution/dp/B00O46ZO02/ref=sr_1_4

On this web report it came in #2 behind the Anderson.
https://www.autoguide.com/top-10-best-weight-distributing-hitches-and-why-you-need-them

However, the Curt has "built in" Sway while I believe you will have to add an independent Sway bar with the Anderson and “release it” when you need to back up, as we did on the Casita. This is not the case with the Curt. A separate Sway Bar is yet another piece of eqpt. to install, keep the pins, store, adjust etc.

We started with a 17' Casita / 4Runner combo with drop bar WD and separate sway control...it too towed great. We moved on to a Navion Sprinter towing a Suzuki 4x4 and then on to a 30' Aspect tugging a Jeep Wrangler …a whole bunch of other "toad" stories!

Blue ox here as well. Reason, because you don't have to remove bars when backing up.

True of the Andersen, too! Oh BTW, it has no bars!

Yeah, I thought about saying "With the Andersen you not only don't have to remove bars to back up, but you also don't have to remove bars when you finish backing up!"

But I thought that would be rubbing it in. Said by one who at this point has never had either kind, so take it for what it is worth.
