Sway bar on Swift SLX

I was going to get a sway bar on my 185 rb swift slx , but the shop that was going to install it said the frame was not thick enought. Can any of the swift owners tell me what they do for say control. I was looking at a product husky sells that is a clamp on ball to the frame. thanks in advance for any help

I have a friction sway hitch on the way right now. I'll have it installed as soon as it arrives. I will make sure to post about itwhen it is all done. I got the Curt for $50 ish.

I also put on a friction sway bar and have 0 sway issues. The shop is correct, the frames on TT of that size/type are not really ment to handle a full-on distribution hitch/sway configuration. I think they could end up bending the frame. These TTs are designed to be pulled w/o one due to their light weight. Picked up my friction bar from CW on sale for about $50.

Hmmm. My dealer had no problem with my request for a WDH and sway bar on my Swift SLX 145 RB. With my Santa Fe's soft rear springs and the fairly high hitch weight for the TV I figured it was a good investment. And, it works really well. Now I wonder if that was the right thing to do.

I have the Husky friction sway bar too. Dealer installed, dealer recommended. I asked if I needed two, he and the tech both said no.
Has been trouble free. As w/all sway bars though, remove the bar when backing up. 30 seconds is all that is needed.

We talking friction sway bar (bolts up to one side with the two little trailer ball connectors OR a WDH set-up with anti-sway with snap up brackets on the trailer tounge? All the WDH set-up's were installed on the taller/thicker frames (and alot bigger TTs)

this is what I use on my Envoy with no WDH set-up, just a 2" ball/reciever and have no sway or weight issues with my 165BH.

3 1/2" x 1 1/2" C channel. the metal is thinner/lighter than those of larger trailers. I was told this + stress a WDH may put on the trailer could cause the frame to bend at the tounge over time and is not reccomended.

Just got our 184BH in June. Dealer recommended and installed a sway bar, but said WDH not necessary.

Well I went and ordered a say control bar from Princess Auto http://www.princessauto.com/pal/prod...ontrol-Bar-Kit. It looks like a rebranded curt. It was on sale for 34.99. The ball mount plate looks to be the right size. Thanks every one for the help. I will feel better when I have the say control install. I hit realy bad wind on our last trip and it got a bit crazy.

thats a good price. I was terrified to be passed by a 18 wheeler for the first time but I had my sway bar and didnt phase me (or the trailer) one bit. just dont forget to remove it before backing as im sure you already know.

I have been looking at the same single bar type and always have to wonder how much turn angle this thing will tolerate. Obviously you couldn't jack knife the trailer but do you have to unhook to back into a slot with a 45 degree kink? How gutsy can I get before getting out and taking the thing loose? Thanks. Leo

You remove sway bar before backing.

How about going forward, say into a gas station or into a pull through for that matter? Thanks, Leo

thats fine, its just the typical backing up usually includes sharp turns to get into a site etc thats why you want to remove it. if you bottom out the bar on a turn you will damage it, your hitch and possibly TT frame

I put mine on today. All at once I tried out my Sway bar, new brake controller, new 7 pin wiring, and OBDii tuner. All was well. I was pleased with the sway bar, but I'll only be using it on the highways. Doesn't seem nessesay in town, and could actually hurt the camper frame is tweaked too hard.
