Sway Bar vs F-150 Sway Control
Hello,
I have been towing my Jay Feather Sport 199 with Acadia using levelers and sway bar. I am replacing Acadia with F-150 which has integrated Brake Controller and Sway Control. How does effectiveness of Sway Control compare to Sway Bar? Under what conditions should I use sway bar in addition to F-150's sway control, if ever?

it is the 2013 F-150 XLT, 4x4, with 3.5 ecoboost, extended cab, tow package, XLT Convenience pkg, GVWR 7200 lbs.

I would use both for security. Towed my 21 foot without wdh and sway for 3 years with no issues. Just bought a 28 foot and purchased curt tru track with built in sway. If you have it use it for safety. Cheers

The trucks sway control controls the brakes on the opposite side of sway direction. It also send power to the trailer brakes (to all the TT drums). It is not a full proof system and the truck mfg. warns for this.
If you install also the Dexter Sway Control for Travel Trailers it is getting more full proof. But you still can install the mechanical sway control for that extra protection.
You can cruise at 60 mph an hour and suddenly a force side wind hit you which can put you in a sway. Improper loading can also create sway.

If the Ford system is anything like what I had on my Tundra, it is reactive, and doesn't do anything until a sway event has already started.
My suggestion is to use your current sway-bar setup as it's proactive in trying to prevent a sway event from happening in the first place. The trucks system is a worst-case scenario back-up

Use both. I wouldn't tow my TT without an anti sway system as I have been caught a few times by a big gust of wind out of nowhere side swiping us at 60mph. If I hadn't had a good anti sway set up it could have been disastrous.

I had a 2012 F150 Xl SB, towing a 19' trailer. Towed fairly well, but Big Rigs and strong winds affected it . Added sway control bar, and it really made a difference. Was always using Ford sway control.
I now have a 23' and am using WDH with it.

The sway control on the F150 won't kick in until sway has already happened. Aftermarket sway control systems prevent the sway from starting in the first place. Always use an add-on anti-sway system.

We have a new Trailer and a 15 Tundra My understanding from both Toyota and Jayco is they dont substitue for one another but compliment each other
IN other words use them both all the time
