Thinking ahead about winter... :(

Good day all you experienced TT owners.

We recently purchased a beautiful 2009 22 foot..I believe that it would be called a 226?

But here is the question. As I removing the antifreeze from the lines I know that I drained the system at least three times..

If I do the same and add a little air to the system to insure that it is empty. Why would i put antifreeze in it. It just seems like a lots of extra work in the spring.

I should add that i do live in Saskatchewan Canada where it will get to -45 Celsius. So for sure all the water will need to be removed.

Thoughts??

Thank you in advance.

Because small amounts of water can remain in the plastic valves in the plumbing system. And because it's cheap insurance and really is not a lot of extra work. Especially on a small trailer. It takes me all of 15 minutes in the spring to clean and drain the lines. It takes about 30 in the fall to blow out the lines with air and fill with anti-freeze.

FWIW, one time I forgot to open a valve in my water heater bypass to allow antifreeze through. It was enough to cause a leak in the seam of the valve next spring. I traded the trailer that spring so I never had to fix it but is didn't look like a fun repair.

Lots of people who live in more southern climes (you know, like Toronto) will tell you that anti-freeze is not necessary and blowing out the lines is all you need. But with the kind of temps we get here, RV anti-freeze is $5-10 of cheap insurance. I wouldn't ever think of not using it.

Once you've done it a couple of times, it's no more than a half-hour extra work in the spring and fall.

Gee, and I thought -20f was cold!

My truck was originally purchased in Canada. It has a factory block heater which only works when it's 0f or below. Which of course doesn't do much good here. Below 0f is fairly rare in my parts. Last January we had several days of -20 then I realized why.

Seriously though, anyone who gets even a few weeks of below freezing temps in the winter does well to use anti-freeze.

-20 F will equal —28 C.

Imagine 2-3 months of -25 to -35.

And people wonder why Canadians are always happy. Lol.

That is why Arizona is 1/3 Canadian in the winter.

Thanks again guys

I blow my lines out, first. Then antifreeze, blow out the lines again. In the spring, when I blow oit the lines, the water lines to my kitchen faucet, will discharge about a cup of antifreeze, that settle in the low spots.
