to WDH or not

I have a featherweight 165 sport, I am pulling it with a 99 2500 cummins. it came with a WDH and I was planning to use it to reduce the potential for sway. I am rethinking it because if I happen to go through a dip in the road or similar situation could this overload the trailer axle/frame because of the weight of the pickup.

Not an expert but for that TV and TT sounds like you don't need one unless you start carrying lead bars on the front area of the TT.

I'd just get an anti-sway system and be done. No wdh needed with that setup.

That much truck and that little trailer.

Go for a 50 mile run without WDH or anti-sway and see how it feels.

SWMBO & I ran the Tacoma and a 2,500# trailer for 6 years without any of that stuff.

Sway control, that's it. I wouldn't tow any travel trailer without it no matter what the tow vehicle.

I have a 165 as well. When I picked it up I borrowed my dad's 3500 dually with the Cummins. I towed 5 hours home on just the 2 inch ball. Truck didn't even know it was back there. In my opinion the 2500 won't need it as well. I now tow it with a suburban 1500. I use the WDH but in all honesty I could away without it. You have a lot of truck for that trailer.

We use neither sway or wdh & never have had an issue. Pulled TT across country twice; to So. Texas 10 times; to Idaho and WA State 10 times.

trailer towed fine w/o a WDH or sway control. haven't completely ruled out an anti sway system, yet. I had also "up sized" my wheels and tires to 215R/14's first trip with them. no issues rode a bit smoother and no clearance issues at all.

I have the 165 also and don't use a weight dist. hitch. I do use the sway hitch like posted above. It works really well just bolts under the ball. I like how fast I can hook and unhook at the campground compaired to a W/D hitch, just makes life simplier. I would recommend the sway hitch you never know where you might be and what kind of winds you might run into.
