Tommy - It was Sicards who gave me the estimate originally, then we asked for a detailed assessment and quote because some of the items they originally told us were damaged like the springs and wheels just didn't make any sense. The trailer when it came unhitched was brought to a controlled stop on the shoulder relatively quickly and smoothly. The detailed quote we got back only indicated brakes and bearings, which I suspected all along, only they (Sicards) tells us that the brakes are a special order from Jayco and with cost for shipping, taxes, duty etc would be $400 per side - and that's not the hubs, bearings or drums. Sicards is charging each item out separately, so in total with their labour its $2500. Outrageous! According to a competing dealer (Rushtons on Hwy 6 in Hamilton) can if necessary, upgrade the brakes to the standard 2 1/4" width, replace the brake assembly, hubs and drums and bearings which are all sold as a complete package, new axle and spindles if required from Dexter (same company who makes the brakes for my Jayco trailer) for around the $500 mark, and about 3 hours labour to install. Sicards are bandits to say the least. We have had some issue to have to dispute or argue each and every time this trailer has been brought to them. And there is still an outstanding issue of water penetration which has not been resolved after four visits to them since the trailer was new. If you are thinking about taking your unit to them, I hope you have better luck with them than I have had. We are now awaiting a response from Jayco Corp, regarding these brakes and the quote we were given. I don't know what the results will be, hopefully Corp. can bring some clarity to this issue. If not, we will be taking the unit to Rushtons for a new (upgraded) brake system. And that will be the last they ever see or hear from me.
