Uphill both ways !!

DW and I had to make a trip to Manitoba last week from our home in Southwest Alberta. Since the wind in this part of the world blows from the west about 360 days of the year and since we usually pull our 213 west through B.C. I figured that this trip should be a breeze towing downwind at least one way and across the flat prairie for 1200km. So we get up early on departure day to find a breeze blowing from the east which turned into a 30 to 40 kmph wind as soon as we left the foothills. Usually the old truck will pull our trailer no problem in overdrive on flat land. Well she shifted down into third and that's where she stayed for two days, 1200 km and six BIG fuel stops on the way to Russell MB. Four days later we get up to head back and you guessed it.... 50km west wind all the way back to AB. Makes the fuel bill for a trip to the coast look not so bad! On the bright side the temperatures averaged 22-22C and the mosquitos were tolerable (couldn't fly in the wind LOL). First night in Saskatchewan woke up in the middle of the night darn near frozen,(even in July in Saskatchewan you need heat at night) because the furnace hadn't kicked on. With no heat DW was not impressed, fearing a dud furnace I was relieved to find that the tiny little metal contact on the cheapo thermostat, on off, switch wasn't touching the contact point to turn on the furnace. Found a popsicle stick and used it to give the tab enough of a nudge to start the furnace. This was the trip where I left the electric heater behind to save weight. Priority this week will be to swap out that thermostat for a digital model...... and clean off the bugs off the front of the trailer.

We need heat???? In 6 weeks I went through 90 lbs of propane in Banff in June... Just remember the cold keeps the skitters down..
Before you leave on your next trip coat the front of your RV and your truck with "Bug Off" made in Sask by the way... LOL it makes it so you can easily wash bug guts off your rig..
