Using Refrigerator while traveling?

I never had a fridge in a camper before. (Only ice box which was used for holding bread... Used coolers for food.) Do you run the fridge on gas while traveling? My unit has gas or electric it is not a 3 way. I was wondering how things stay cold during travel?

Some do, Some don`t. I do, but have it turned off when entering tunnels or refueling.
Here is a recent and lengthy discussion on the subject:

That is some interesting reading. Most have electronic ignition and a auto mode but mine does not. It has a piezo electric ignitor to start it and then you hold the button until the flame sensor gets in the green then you release it. But the way I understand it the flame is steady not like a water heater where a pilot stays on and the gas only comes on when the water needs heating.

The main burner on a gas fridge is a tiny pilot flame...nothing more. I run my fridge on gas from the house to the campground including the gas station. The flame is 4+ feet off the ground and unless you squirt the gas nozzle into the vent cover behind the fridge it is very unlikely that you will have a strong enough concentration of vapors in free air to ignite.
