Which Anderson Hitch for the 195RB

I will take possesion of a 2021 195RB next week and would like to order the proper Anderson 3324 hitch configuration to have ready.

Does anyone know:

1) coupler size (2" or 2 5/8")

2) bracket size
choice is 4" or less drop or 4-8" drop. The Colorado is 19" ground to top of reciever, so need to know distance of ground to coupler bottom when trailer is level

3) trailer frame size (3,4, 4 3/8,5,6, or 8"

1) is 2-5/16. 2) is not bracket, but rather drop hitch. I don't know how high the 195 sits, so hopefully someone can answer. 3) is 3/4/5/6, but that doesn't completely answer - Jayco uses an underslung coupler, and it is nearly impossible to get a 3350D kit with the special bracket other than by calling Andersen directly, or buy the regular 3350 kit and then spend extra bucks later for the underslung brackets. See my post here on the topic: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...ket-97943.html

The 195 has a very light frame; easily bent . Our dealer recommended to stay away from a WDH. We towed that thing everywhere.. See the map.

However the anti sway mechanism on the Andersen is very useful. When we had the 195 we did bend the frame from just going over a bad pothole. When we got the larger 212 QB we got an Andersen.. ( bigger taller box! bigger frame)
To the best of my memory the hitch takes a two inch ball . I think the frame was 3 inches

E trailer might be able to give you those specs accurately.

Shows what I know. I think you can forget everything I said, as I assumed (bad idea) that the 195 would have a frame/hitch similar to the Micro, and it appears it is much lighter. I would agree in that case an Andersen hitch would be a bad idea. It pulls up heavily on the bottom side of the frame. Not sure there is any good WDH for that. You can get a pretty simple sway control bar without WDH.

I've been running an E2 Fastway WDH for the last 3 years on my 195, no ill effects here! I just disconnect the torsion bars on dirt roads and backing up inclines.

I tow with a Tacoma. Do you need measurements?

The notes I have from my 2015 195RB Baja Edition show a 2" ball, level bottom of coupler height of 24.5" and 4" frame rails. I believe the standard edition was somewhere around 20-21" level bottom of coupler height but I no longer have the spec sheet with those details. I used the Andersen 3324 kit with the universal 3/4/5/6" brackets and 8" drop/rise. I towed with a 2014 RAM 1500 w/the factory air suspension. Put close to 30K miles on that combination without any issues. The Andersen is a nice hitch especially for the small to medium trailers.

Wondering if we actually saved our 195 from too much frame stress by not having a system. We towed it from Maine to Alaska twice and to California once and Arizona once.
120,000 miles. About a quarter of that on dirt roads.. If I see a dirt road I have a compulsion..

So if you do get a WDH and navigate dirt and logging roads ( most of our State does not have improved roads) pay attention to what you are driving on .. The Andersen is easy to disengage the WDH.

We note that Texas has more ice today.. We actually had a really good time towing our 195 across i 10 in the ice storm of 2021. No issues save for the pile of 18 wheel obstructions that sometimes blocked the way.

The primary reason that stopped us from getting a WDH was our tow vehicle was on a car chassis and WDH not recommended in the manual. Although it was probably a CYA thing written by lawyers.

Measurements would save the day!

Ball size on the 2021 195RB - is it really 2"? One comment said they thought it was 2 5/8", but my ball is 2".

Hitch height: my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado (gas 3.6L, Z82 tow package, 7000 lb tow capacity) receiver top of tube is 20" above ground, and my hitch has a 2" drop. Will that match the 195RB?

What is the thickness of the stock Serta matress? I believe it is 60x75", but need to know thickness to order sheets.

Doesn't matter about the stock mattress. It is junk.. Try it.. You will be off to find a better mattress pretty soon.

Yes 2 inches.

Never worried about the drop. Easy enough to buy a new hitch drop.. Two inches sounds right IIRC ( we had the 195 but traded it in)

The 195 was our first trailer and we were ignorant about obsessing about figures. All worked out despite our lack of knowledge..

I had a 2012 185RB, same tt but bed north/south vs east west and an extra length of floor. It had 2 5/16th ball. I used UltraFab 10,000 WDH and worried about springing the frame. Only had about 500 lbs tongue weight, but no spring travel. Got a bigger tt in 2016, took hitch with me. Mattress is only about 2.5 inches thick. bed orientation permits full size queen on the pedestal. The fridge is too small. Fresh tank is too small. Towed it with 2007 F-150, 2009 Flex and 2015 F-150. Hitch adjusted every time I got a different vehicle.

Kim - when you were at a campground with your 195RB and night time temperatures got below 32 degrees, at what point did you feel it necessary to winterize, assuming you kept your cabin warm with propane or electric heat?

We drained the water and hoped for the best at 10-15
And full winterize when coming home from warmer climates
We don't worry about 32 at all
Normal lows here can be that cold in camping season

We probably should have winterized for a prolonged cold spell below freezing for days
It takes a while for water to freeze as it has a high thermal mass
But our stints below freezing have been less than a day

Are you saying Kim that with your 195RB, when temps got into the low 20s and you were camping, keeping the cabin warm for your comfort, you operated the water/plumbing systems normally and never had a freeziing problem?

When you say "We probably should have winterized for a prolonged cold spell below freezing for days" do you mean when camping, keeping the heat on, if it was below feezing for several days in a row, maybe high 20s at night, you should have winterized with antifreeze to be safe?

Never paid much mind to temos in the 20's at night if it was above 32 the next day
We didn't run the furnace at night

A prolonged run of sub freezing temps is another matter
We are camping with a low of - something
It hasn't been above freezing for six weeks
You can bet we will stay winterized and use campground bathhouses

The Jayflight SLX series all have water supply inside confines of the tt, including fresh tank. Only exposed plumbing is grey/black tanks. I camped for days without problems with highs in the upper 20's, low in mid teens. Same for the next tt, Salem Cruise Lite 24QBXL, spent one overnight in Arlington, Tx where it got to 9 above, left water in the bath dripping with no problem. Pirit hose all the way. My JayFeather has chloroplast under it and my son had no issue when temps went below 0 for a few days, were under 20 for 10 or so. I do leave it plugged in with a space heater on low when unoccupied.

For the 195RB Kim, when in high 20s day, low to mid teens night, and knowing grey/black tanks are the only thing exposed... can did you continue to use grey/black normally...did you put in antifreeze and stop using them... or perhaps did you continue using but added antifreeze to tanks?

If you continued using them normally, is the reason you had no problem because, perhaps, the black and grey liquids freeze at a higher temperature, or perhaps the tanks have room for freezing liquids to expand... ?

Used campgriund bathrooms
Did not winterize
What was in the tank atayws as we were boondocking
The tanks have room for expansion

Now off to fix a frozen jack and a broken window camera antenna

Thank you fro sharing that Kblast, it is really helpful. Are heated potable water hoses like the Pirit you use commonly used in these cases?

The Pirit is great for connecting as long as you can keep the supply line from freezing. Long term stationary tt requires heat tape and insulation from freeze line to hose.

The stock Serta mattress is trash. 6" garbage. I got rid of mine on Nextdoor for free. You can see the dimensions on the blue label of the OEM mattress in the pic. Replaced with this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

MUCH better mattress - just make sure that you take it inside your rig before "inflating"!
