Whitehawk 29sqb

I currently have a 1207 PUP and my family is ready to move up to a travel trailer. I am looking at the Whitehawk 29SQB, can anyone give me their opinions. I know they haven't been around very long, but, just looking for pros and cons from current owners. My TV is a 2012 Ford F-150 Lariat, 3.5L Ecoboost, 3.73.

I have been looking at it also for the last few weeks. We finally ruled it out yesterday because it is just too big for us.
We like nice cozy campsites and this just would not fit the bill. Other than that, the unit is very nice and if you don't mind 32 feet behind you I think you will like it. I love the outdoor kitchen!!!!!

Good luck

I have been looking at the White Hawks after realizing my TV is just not sized up right for the Jay Flight 29RLS we wanted. We are looking at the 30DSRE, believe that this is what we are going with. I think that what ever White Hawk you go with you will be happy. I have looked at the 26DSRB and the 27 DSRL before settling on the 30DSRE. Only myself and my wife so it fits in well.

Hi Gary,

I have the Whitehawk 28DSBH and I tow it with my 2010 F150. The actaul sticker wt. of the trailer from the factory is 5800 lbs. This is my first large trailer and I wanted to keep the weight as low as possible but still have a good floorplan. I hardly feel it behind my truck and I don't have the Eco boost engine either. It tows easily. Overall the Whitehawk as been a great trailer. I would definitley buy one again. It took me three years and alot of looking at trailers to finally pull the trigger on a unit.

We looked at the 29sqb but went with the larger slide 28dsbh model. Both are great trailers.

I hope that helped a little even though I don't have a 29sqb.

Have fun looking and good luck with your decision

Crewmaniacs,

Thanks for the input. I also have been looking for about 3 years also trying to figure out the best floorplan for my family. I think the reason I haven't pulled the trigger on a bigger travel trailer is I am too picky. Went and looked at the 28DSBH and 29SQB today. Both of my sons went straight to the top bunk in the 28DSBH and knowing they will not sleep together, we looked at the 29SQB. I like where the kitchen is located in the 28DSBH, but not 100% sure I like its location in the 29SQB. We also looked at a Forest River Surveyor Select SV304 and my wife really liked the bunks and the 60 X 80 Queen bed in the front. Decisions, decisions......

lol... nothing wrong with being picky... after all it's your money.

Have you looked at the 31DSLB whitehawk? it has two top bunks in a L configuration almost like the kids have their own room and it has the same kitchen as the 28 dsbh whitehawk but with a U dinette. There is also a Jayflight 29QBH that has a great family floorplan. It's a nice looking trailer with tons of room.

Either way Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Cheers

x2 on the 31DSLB, we picked ours up this spring and love it. We considered the 29QBH, but did not like the layout of the kitchen, and wanted more room for the kids. (3 girls: ages 6, 4, & 6 months) Our criteria was for a U shaped dinette, outdoor kitchen (love it!!) and 3 permanent beds for the kids. The back room is the kids getaway and the slide wardrobe is perfect. Honestly, there is nothing with this trailer we do not like, might be worth considering.

Nice of ya'll (I'm from the South) to throw in another TT to look at, which is good, i like to have options plus I get to go look and compare them. But, do you think I'm okay pulling it with my TV (see sig). TV is 145" wheelbase and the 31DSLB is 34' 11", might as well say 35'. Remember, I do NOT have the max towing package, just the regular towing package.

We are looking at all those models mentioned as well. Haven't been to look at any of them yet but we want a bunk room, bathroom with its own door to outside and the outdoor kitchen would be nice.

If you notice that member 202Acadia has a 2012 F150 Eco boost with the smaller gears and towes the Whitehawk 31DSLB. I would think with the Eco boost and your gear ratio should be fine but you should check with ford. I only have the standard towing package from factory with a modestly rated to 9600lbs max tow pkg. I think your numbers would work for the whthk 31DSLB with your setup. Again that's depending on if you like the trailer...

I've got the 31DSLB. The layout is nice but the U dinette will not fit more than three comfortably. Most traditional type wil fit four. That being said, the Jayco's back seat can be moved to the front, awkward but a nice feature. I would much rather a traditional dinette and a larger jack sofa/bed.

HI Gary,

So I guess it depends on what you like and what you`re willing to tow. Again I highly recomend the Whitehawk but I`m biased..lol... remember your tounge weight plays a role as well. The whitehawks are pretty good in that department.

Out of the factory I believe the weight was 6,600 lbs, with 8,200 GVRW.

FYI, just got back from a weekend of camping, approx 500km round trip. I was very impressed with the power of the Ecoboost, set the cruise at 105km/hr, and the truck did the rest. Would shift from 6th to 5th to 4th (most of the time in 5th) but held speed without a problem. A couple of times driving up a 3-4% grade the truck slowed a bit before downshifting to 3rd (still around 4,500 RPM) and accellerated back up to 105km/hr. Transmission temp did not fluctuate. There honestly was no comparison to pulling with my old 5.3 Chev that on the same route would slow to 80km/hr, downshift to 2nd and redline the truck - I could not drive with the cruise in the Chev.

We did have a strong cross wind (40km/hr gusting to 65km/hr), and you could definitely feel it. Not to the point where I felt uncomfortable, but I knew I was pulling a camper. One of the guys I was camping with was on his first trip pulling a new Fuzion 300 http://www.keystone-fuzion.com/index...ast=&model=300, he guessed the camper was loaded at or near the 11,200 tow rating limit of his F150 Platinum with the ecoboost, max tow package and 3.73 rear end. He said there was plenty of power, but had to slow down to 90 km/hr as it did not feel stable in the high cross wind. My guess is this was due to a combination of: a) Higher camper = bigger sail to catch the cross wind; b) heavier tongue weight (2x heavier than the 31dslb); and 3,000# heavier camper. In a less windy day I think he will be fine pulling his toyhauler, as long is it isn't loaded to the max.

100% satisfied with the Ecoboost and the 31dlsb and recommend this combination to anyone.

Note: Milage according to the truck guage was 7.2 MPG (32.5L/100KM) for the round trip. Not great, but considering the wind and the fact I was driving 105km/hr, I am OK with it. I have heard fuel milage improves after 10,000 km on the truck. I was getting between 8 - 9 MPG towing with the Chev.

I'm going to apologize up front for bringing this back up, but, I am ready to pull the trigger. I have looked at the White Hawk 29sqb and just want to make sure I will be within the 1140 payload capacity of my 2012 Ford F-150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 3.5L Ecoboost, 3.73. Ford says it will tow 9600 lbs. I have the standard tow package, NOT the max towing package. The yellow sticker on the 29sqb says it weighs 5814 lbs dry. Jayco's website says the DRY hitch weight is 540 lbs. In your honest opinions, can I tow this safely with a Reese Dual Cam WDH? In the TV will be myself, wife, 2 sons (age 4 and 6) and one row of firewood in the bed of the truck. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Cutting it very close. 1140lb CCC based off published specs or actual for your TV based on physically weighing? If you didn't go weight you truck you really need to. Put that row of wood in, load the wife and kids and head to the scale. That will tell you how much additional payload you have for TW and WDH.

I suspect you will exceed the CCC of you F150. We did this for a while with a Tahoe, well with in CGVW but over ~150lbs on the GVWR. Would not recommend it, but we made it on several trips safely till I could upgrade TV.

If you don't want to buy a new TV soon, then don't by the trailer. Funny how this happens, One buys a trailer you are close to weight limits on, then after a few trips you talk yourself into buying a new TV just to be on the safe side.

I would seriously consider the 28DSBH still. The 29SQB has a much shallower slide, and while it does have the bunks in the back, they're narrow. The 28DSBH gives you much wider beds which your kids will appreciate as they get older.

Perhaps they can switch up who sleeps where nightly. They could even switch every camping camping trip.

You lose the outdoor kitchen in the 28DSBH, but it still has an outdoor fridge. A great aspect of the 28DSBH is also the outdoor bathroom entrance. If you want everything then the 31DSLB may fit the bill.

Are you sure on the payload capicity. After just looking at some 2012 f150 charts the only truck i see with that low rating is the 6.2 raptor. Everything else is over 1300.
