Wide Stance Axles

I was wondering how much tow in/out I should see in the tires while backing, turning, or coming out of the driveway? I see a lot of deflection and not sure if this is correct. Everything is tight and looks ok. Tows great and have no issues going down the road, but I just wondered if this is "normal". Is it the way the suspension works? Any insight wold be great.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean but when you are turning sharp or backing and turning there is give in the springs and the axles can move side-ways a little.

I think bigdaddyss means when he maneuvers his trailer on the pavement as if backing into a campsite, it looks like the wheels of the trailer splay out to the sides. They sure do on my 23B and I too thought something was broken or damaged.

My theory is that the axles with the torsion rubber suspension allow the wheel spindles to "toe out" when making tight turns as opposed to a typical tandem axle equipment trailer where they are held more rigidly and just skid across the pavement. That's my explanation.

I agree with Mcfarmall... that is also the reason they tell you once you are in a tight parking spot to move the trailer back and forth a few feet to let the axle "right" itself.

I spoke to the dealer and they say it is because of the suspension and the axles. They also said that the units are designed that way. It is just not something I used to seeing. My other trailer had normal axle spacing and I never saw the deflection.

X2, and all the more reason to maintain the proper tire PSI.
