Winterizing

Curious what you all do for winterizing.

I had a pop up and I would just hook up my air compressor and blow air through the system to get the water out of the lines. Never used anti freeze at all.

Now going to a TT it has to be stored outside vs. our garage. Is doing the same thing okay or should I use antifreeze?

You will get mixed responses here on this. Personally, I blow the lines out with compressed air then add antifreeze. This maybe overkill but 1.5 gallons of antifreeze is cheap.

Air will work fine, you don't have to get 100% of the water out a little won't hurt if it does freeze.

X2, I also blow out the antifreeze afterwards.

Even after blowing out the lines, there is residual water in the lines. My fear, is it will settle to a lower point, accumulate, freeze, and break a fitting.

I also store my htt were it is not uncommon to get below -30 degree F. So I want maximum protection.

If you are someplace warmer, having diluted antifreeze should not be an issue. I have heard many people around these parts that only blow out the lines and say it's good enough, and say they have not had any issues.

I think I might switch over to antifreeze for peace of mind. Since the popup was garaged it wasn't as bad temp wise in there vs. outside.

I use the compressor first, then a couple gallons of antifreeze. And don't forget the sink traps too

If you use antifreeze (the good stuff without any ethanol) it will help stop your faucet seals and blade valve in the potty from drying out.

I'm happy with just doing the pink stuff. Only takes two gallons of the good stuff (no ethanol).

I do the same on my sailboat. Never an issue. Well, except for the one year I forgot to drain the water heater on the sailboat. Luckily, it was easily accessible and not too expensive.

Amen to that! Not meaning to hijack the threat, but shouldn't we be talking about de-winterizing?

Geez didn't know topic was banned at certain times of year.

I'm going to have to de-winterize for a trip coming up, but this being Colorado, I'll probably need to winterize it again after that.

2 days ago we had 8 inches of snow and 25 mph winds. 30 inches of ice on the lake yet. 2 degrees this morning and 4 to 8 inches of snow coming Monday and Tuesday. I really have been thinking warm weather but its not working.
