x213 Adding Front Storage?

I have a 2012 x213. I've read several threads about opening the area between the bunk bed trailer front. I decided to do the mod but when I drilled a 1" hole for a corner radius I found the area to be full of insulation. I don't see any evidence of previous tampering. Did some years have insulation up there? I am hesitant to remove insulation since we do like to camp in cold weather.

I guess you are referring to this area in the bunk room with bunks removed...

I was helping a friend convert this area called the bike storage area to a office area for him. This was in a 2010 X213 trailer...

The 12-inch wide area shown here is pretty much open area inside it. There is a small door access on both ends as I recall... The area above the area up to the ceiling I suppose would have the insulation you are referring too... I think we found storage of long hoses in this area thru the small outside door.

My friend went inside the large door area for 20-inches or so and put up a wall across the area. This made a pretty large area for him to install a L shaped desk with a hutch accessible from inside the trailer...

It was a success for him to setup an office area as he had no need for the bunk beds. Just him and his wife camping...

Thanks for the reply. I'm referring to the area between the paneling and the outside, front wall, below the shelf. There is no factory access to this area. If you open the small door that hinges upward to access the "basement" area, I drilled a hole in the front panel and found fiberglass insulation. Between the dashed red line and the nose.

No insulation when you opened it?

I found the insulation to be quite a joke. It was three pieces of 1” thick white fibreglass that was thrown in and not even held down.
Had to fix a water leak. Tracked it down to the orange running light on the front upper cap.
Ended up ripping up the entire front and found a bunch of interesting construction methods. Such as thin sheet metal glued to the styrofoam which holds up the side of the upper bunk.

I am pretty sure my friend was storing some ruber hoses in this area. He must have added a small outside access door. I just looked at a whole of 213 photos and did not see a small access door.

We also ran cables from the back area through cabinet oon the front end and extended out thru the trailer tongue. I think you can see the other end of this area thru that access door next to the trailer access door. That small room is for hanging clothes and has a small drawer on the bottom. I kinda remember if you pulled the bottom drawer out all the way you see access to bottom shelf we are talking about.

What we see here stops at the inside wall of the closet wall.

I really thought that X213 was a great trailer. I was in the market in 2008 and almost bought one then. Then I found out the railing for the large extend out bunk bed was inferior and the whole thing would not stay level. When you closed it back in it would rip up the inside couch and kitchen table seats haha....

They got all of that fixed with the 2009 model... Been good ever since I guess... That sure is a big door that drops down to let the bunk bed to come out...

I got my 2008 Starcraft RT14 Off-road trailer back then...

I did that mod on my 2012 x213 a number of years ago. I had that insulation also but lived with it. The extra space is kinda useless, but handy for long items like fishing rods or flag poles. We loved our 213, but hated the insanely heavy tongue weight.

I cut a small access hole in the outside front storage compartment of my x213 to store my fishing poles. I did locate pink insulation inside of mine

How difficult was it to get access behind the bulk head? It looks like I have to remove the closet wall in order to get the top of the bulk head off, is that correct?
