X213 Questions

Hi,

My wife and I just picked up our new to us 2010 Jayco x213 yesterday morning. We bought it about 100 miles from our home and towed it home.
It was quite and adventure because about 9 mile into the trip home we had a flat tire on our Expedition. We unhooked on the side of the NYS Thruway, changed (note to self used Travel Trailers don't come with chocks) the rear tire re-hooked and then went on home.

We upgraded from a pop-up and are very happy. I'm sure we will have lots of questions but first is what size sheets are you using for the king bed? We have a memory foam topper, so the bed is thick but seems short? Do they make short King sheets or do we just use a regular one?
Thanks
Tom AKA Brewstercrew

Congratulations on the new-to-you Jayco and welcome to the forum.

Sorry, I can't help with your bedding questions. Hopefully someone will be along that can help you.

First congratulations on the new camper.

It's better to have a flat on the TV than then tt. We had a simular situation a few years ago. Everytime we go camping with my brother's family it's an adventure. He got a flat, at a major interstate interchange just a few miles from home, in a road construction site. And of course he did not have all the tools to change a tire. He was following me, so I had to circle around and pull in behind him.

Double check that you have the tools to change a tt tire. Lug nut size maybe different than the tv. Also your TV jack may not be addiqate. I carry an 18 inch breaker bar and three sockets, with that combo I can change tire on a all my cars and my two trailer. Same combo is in my TV and my every day car. It takes very little space, and is strong when have to jump on it because a tire shop over torqued the lug nuts.

No help with the bedding. We have queen our htt. They are an odd size, but a regular queen fits fine.

We have an X213. We do not use a matteess topper (but have been considering it). We use regular King size fitted sheets and tick the excess under the mattress. Not too much excess but enough to allow for a small topper (maybe a 2" memory foam type).

We have a 2012 X213 and I believe on the 2010 model that the bed is sideways with the window at the back. Our headboard is at the back of the slide with the two windows on the sides and we use King size fitted sheets with a 2" memory foam topper. We tuck the extra sheet under the mattress too. For chocking the tires, we use x-chocks and changing a flat tire on the trailer, I have a tire changing ramp. Congrats on your new trailer

Our 2010 213 has windows on sides of slide with headboard at back. We use a 2 inch foam topper on the mattress. I also have 1/4 inch dense foam "backpackers" pads under the mattress, found this keeps the bed slide much warmer in cool weather.

Our 2012 came with an upgraded mattress, so it is just like our bed at home and a normal king sheets fit fine. Really cumfy to.

I dont think you really needed to unhook the trailer to change a flat on the TV. I certainly would not have on the side of the road. The amount of tongue load on one tire of the TV will be very minimal.

Our 2010 has the windows on the sides and the headboard on the back.

We use regular king sheets. I have been tossing around the idea of getting a topper. We going on a 2 week trip to Florida in March, the topper might be nice.

Just watch your head when you wake up in the morning! I wish those cupboards were on the side of the slide instead of by the head end!

Love my X213 only issue is limited storage issue. Anyone know how much weight I could put on the King Bed when retracted in the camper for travel. They list weight rating when extended can't find anything the retracted.

Thanks,
George

For my 2016 x213, you can have the same extended and retracted (not sure how much, but it was the same number, maybe 1000lbs?). Only 200lbs while it is moving from extended to retracted though, so if you are storing heavy stuff during travelling, you may need to retract before putting it on (don't forget your clothes in the cabinets and topper are included in that 200lbs).

You guys have any good ideas to keep stuff from sliding off the bed while traveling? I tow a lot in the rockies and if I have to brake moderately or harder on a decline, I can have some things slide off.

Thanks Paul mainly looking for a safe place to put my portable solar panel and a few other items. Panel weighs 35Lbs the other things maybe add up to 50. so would be less the 100lbs total.

I ended up making some storage attached to the fold-up bed for my solar panels (3x60W). I don't have a good picture of the storage (I'll try and get one in 2 weeks when we prep for our next trip), but have attached a picture of the solar panel in a test. I effectively used some 1/4" or 1/8" plywood and some 1x2s to make a holder for them under the bed (with some foam in between to protect them). Had to be careful raising and lowering the bed, but was still able to fit 3 (sometimes 4) bikes in there as well. Haven't used it the last 2 years as we have always been staying in sites with electricity, but was useful our first year when we had a few non-electric sites.

For light stuff, a cargo net for the bed of the truck? You could put some D-rings (similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Tie-Down-Anch.../dp/B07NNN8J5X) at the corners of the bed and strap it down. Even for heavier things you could use those rings to strap things down.

While we are on the topic of x213 slides, I was wondering about lubricating mine (2016 x213).

My dealer recommended Mirage 2000 Lubricant and Protector (possibly because it was what they sold).

I'm wondering where I should be lubricating. On both sides, there is a set of plastic double rollers inside and outside. There are some metal gears accessible in the inside as well. There is also some around the main motor. (see pictures attached... Guess I need to vacuum the bugs and spider webs off as well)

Should I be lubricating all of these?

Thanks,
Paul
