X213 tongue weight is......680 pounds

Hi Everyone

I know I've been wondering what the tongue weight is for awhile and I've read may others posts requesting the same information. I'm at 680 pounds on the nose according to my new sherline scale.

My camper is a 2010 x213

Full propane tanks
spare
equalizer hitch bars in the camper under the bunk
coleman grill and 4 chairs under the bunk (note i usually put them under the table)
The camper is loaded with the " leave in the camper camping supplies" (no food or clothes)
empty grey, Black, and fresh water tanks.

Thanks
Tom

Thanks for posting. I had just purchased an X213 and was wondering what the weight was on mine. I did get to take it out on a trip and it towed great. My F150 with 3.73 gears had no problem pulling or getting up to speed. The way I test my trailers out to see how nice it rides is on a stretch of 95 going to the Jersey shore. There is a stretch where it turns to concrete road that is uneven between sections. Every trailer I had, It feels scary going over it and have to hold the wheel with both hands. It is actually a little scary driving it without a trailer. It wasnt too bad with the X213. I did notice the trailer behind me on that stretch though... So I added some air to my Air Bags and it helped out alot.

This is a great little trailer so far. Though it is smaller than what we are use to, I think it will be great for just hooking up and going out for long weekend trips

I tow mine with a 2015 Expedition Ecoboost 373 gears and tow package.

It does really well with x213..It has a 920# max tongue weight. The car drops an 1 1/4 when hooked up....

I swear they've been putting rocks in the underbelly on later model years. Our tongue is at least 100 pounds more. Perhaps as much as 120 more.

More and More

We are about to leave on a 6000 mile 3 week trip with it...I keep seeing my wife walk out to the camper with supplies so I would imagine I will add another 100 pounds to that number....

My plan is to load it and check the #'s again and then play around with adding fresh water to the tank..

I will post those #'s also

Tom

Great info on your loaded tongue weights.

When you get a chance weigh your HTT at a CAT scale, then you will be able to confirm that your tongue weights fall within the manufacture's recommended 10% to 15% weight range of your HTT's gross weight.

Also, for those using a Sherline tongue weight scale (great investment) make sure all slides and/or tent-ends are closed ......., otherwise it will effect one's Sherline tongue weight reading (been there-done it)

More X213 tongue weight numbers

I put together some more tongue weight numbers for you.

We are leaving on our big trip on Thursday. We are mostly packed up and ready. A full fridge and freezers worth of food and the pantry to the left of the fridge are also filled with food. Clothing is still being loaded.

Under the bunks
Colman road trip grill.
3 bag chairs one heavy duty chair.
2 equalizer hitch 1000# bars.

Front closet
Towels and sweatshirts for 4
Normal tools and sewer equipment in storage area.
Under the sofa and kitchen tables loaded with heavy supplies. and Equipment.
I also just added a second spare tire to the modified rear bumper.

Here are some #'s

Tongue weight empty hot water tank 640#'s
Tongue weight full hot water tank very close 638#'s

Adding fresh water.
1/3 tank of fresh of fresh water 640#'s
2/3 tank of fresh water 650#'s
Full fresh water tank 660#'s

I thought adding fresh water would reduce tongue weight...It did not!
I guess because the fresh water tank is above the axles instead of behind them it still added weight.

I did test my scale it was within 5-10 pounds of my bathroom scale.

Just a point of reference, our 23B had 600# TW. We pulled with an '03 Expe 5.4 and I felt it was adequate but "just". With just the bride and me we were under the Rear GAWR by 300#, add another couple and I figure we were over.

This is a very helpful thread thank you!

I also just bought a Sherline tongue scale and my X213 is 650 on the nose.

* Full Propane tanks, spare, but no WDH hitch or bars in storage on the trailer
* Four lawn chairs, a folding table and some other light misc items in the front bunk area
* Massive 3-burner camping stove, two heavy griddles, about 100lbs of supplies all packed under the table
* Black, Grey and Fresh tanks are all empty

The trailer is 4,400lbs empty and I am pretty sure I am close to 5,000lbs with it packed, so 650 for a tongue weight is 13%, or pretty much perfect.

One more thing - be sure to weigh your hitch at PRECISELY the same height as when it will be hitched on your vehicle. I noticed the weight could change 50-100lbs just by moving the hitch up or down an inch or two!

The 2015 expy has the eco-boost twin turbo motor, mine has 373 gears and the hd towing package. 9200 pound towing capacity and 920 pound tongue weight.
I tows the camper extreamly well. I drove a 2014 left over V8 before i bought this one...and its night and day. It's the same drive line as the f150. I will get back to you when i get back from this trip as to how it pulls in the mountains....
Thanks again

I will check that EV4d, I made sure the trailer was level, but it was higher than hitch height.... I did move (Bounce)the hitch around a little to get the best reading on the scale.... How do you find your expedition towing your 213?

Those are pretty close to the numbers on our '03 Expe (our "max trailer wt was 8950#). Our 23B weighed 4420# loaded which was about half the max trailer number yet we were within 300# of the Rear GAWR.
My point is you will probably exceed the GAWR well before reaching the maximum trailer weight.

The CAT Scale is your friend.

We love our Expedition and it tows the X213 perfectly. Passing slow trucks on the freeway and even mountain passes are no problem. We are a bit jealous that the Expedition now comes with Ecoboost, which we do not have, but its been a great towing vehicle.

And 50 more torques, assuming it stays identical to the F150.
