16XRB gray tank valve cable broken

The gray tank valve has been very difficult to open and close since the camper was new. On our last trip, the cable that actuates the valve broke inside of its sleeve. I had to crawl under the camper at the dump station to open the valve and would prefer not to do that again. The valve points directly at and is very close to the axle so the cable has to make an immediate bend. I suspect that this is where it is binding. Anyone else deal with this issue and have suggestions for a better than factory fix?

Those valves have four screws holding them together and can be easily reassembled at 90 degree increments. Would this help you route the cable in a better direction? Perhaps it was installed incorrectly at the factory.
