2008 Carefree Awning Help

I have a 2008 T26Y Toyhauler with a Carefree awning. Over Memorial Day camping I noticed while towing the awning arms moved out about 1 inch at the top. I pulled over and retracted them. Just down the road a bit I noticed they were out again so I pulled over and secured them and moved on. When I arrived at the campsite I extended the awning and about 2-3 feet from being completely rolled out the awning extended rather quickly. I tried to retract and it wouldn't work so I had to manually roll it back up and secure.

I finally have some time to look into it but can anyone guide me on where to start looking and what this might be? Thanks in advance.

If it's a manual awning sounds like one of the springs broke. There is one in each end.

5Keeprs,

I recently replaced the fabric on my Dometic electric awning and ran into some issues. So I may be able to help. On most electric awnings, the motor is at the right end of the roller (as you face the camper sidewall), the spring is in left end. I'd say, if the motor makes no noise when you push the button, it's the motor. But, from what you describe it sounds like the spring in the left end. You can order a new spring/shaft/endcap assembly on line for about $139. I had to order one for mine and got it at boatandtraileraccessories.com for $99 (with free shipping). The instructions are pretty clear, and there are numerous "You Tube" videos on line.

Good luck!
