50 Amp Prep option
We are looking at the JayFlight 32BHDS. We camp primarily in mild climates, therefore we will only order it with a single 15000 BTU AC, don't ever expect to add a second AC, however I am curious if the wise folks here think I should still go ahead and get the 50AMP prep package?
My thoughts...
PRO -- its much cheaper to do it now ($336 option) vs decide I want it later
PRO -- When the time comes to sell it the next owner may camp differntly and appreciate the ability to add a 2nd AC with out addressing the power
Neutral -- When we have an elec hookup, there is rarley a 50Amp circuit.
Con -- 50 AMP Power cord is much heavy to manage
Con -- My 30 AMP extension and 30-20 dog bones are vitually useless
Con -- My 30 AMP SurgeGuard EMS isn't as handy either
What are you thoughts?

I would do it. $336 up against the total cost of the trailer is almost insignificant. Down the road it would probably make re-sale a lot easier.

You can still re-use your 30amp extension and 30amp surge if you are planning to only use 30amps of service by using a dog bone.

I got the 50 amp service option when I ordered our Eagle 284BHS. I have yet to use the 50 amp cord.
Knowing that I would seldom have need to use the 50 amp cord, I got a 50 to 30 amp adapter pigtail.
I don't have to wrestle with the heavy cord and I can still use use the longer and lighter 30 amp extension cords that I saved from our old camper.

I always use 50amp where it's available. The reason is: The wife will run microwave, air conditioning, electric hot water and fridge all at the same time no matter how many times we discuss it. And I don't like it when everything goes off all at once and she starts in on how it should have been designed to work the way she wants to use it.

I would do it if I were you, and in fact I have it on my trailer. $336 on that trailer in the big picture is nothing. I have it primarily because I MAY add a second A/C unit some day down the road. Of course you can get adapters, but it's sometimes nice to use the 50 AMP plug on a "well used" post where the 30 AMP plug is all beat up.
I will agree that the cord is somewhat cumbersome, and DW has trouble with it, but I don't really worry about it so much.
That, and I don't have to worry about appliance usage at all. I use whatever whenever, and I don't have to worry about overloading...

X2 Its necessary in a bigger coach or TT with multi ac and lots of electrical devices but for the typical TT, I just don't see the need. Have been camping in a TT for years and never felt under powered with 30A.

I would do it in a second. My trailer is not wired for a second A/C, but during the summer running the A/C water heater and fridge on electric, microwave, coffee pot, we frequently trip breakers. I just built a break-out box to use the 50A service to run two 30A legs. Not as good as 50A, but it will give me 60A of usable power, plus, I have already installed an additional 20S leg to run space heaters.

Not entirely true. I have a similar set up on a houseboat. The slip pedistal only has 50A and 20A so I split the hot leads between the left and right sides of the breaker panel. The power coming from the pedistal is 250V but I'm getting 125 on each side of the panel since there is no crossover to link the 2 leads. In any regard, I can pull a max of 30A from each side but NOT at the same time. The most current available at the same time can not exceed 50A without popping the breaker on the dock pedistal. I do not need 250V so the setup works great.
Your setup is different because it is only 125V / 50A but the result should be the same. Max of 50A total is all that is available.
