50 amp service

I am in the process o getting a new 24mbh. I am planning to get a surge protector for the electrical. The question I have is if I get the 30 amp protector and just use a 30 to 50 dog one adapter will that be bad for the surge protector or do I need the 50 amp protector (and then have to connect to 50 amps all the time)

I think that TT only comes with 30 amp service. I do not think you would gain anything with a 50 amp surge protector.

I would suggest matching the protector to the service that your camper will support. If your camper supports 50amp, then purchase a 50amp protector, otherwise you will be limited in the power you can draw. With electrical, you are always limited to the lowest capacity device in the circuit.

Example -- If your camper supports 50amp and the pedestal is 50amp and you have a 30amp protector -- You would be limited to drawing 30amps due to the lower capacity of the protector. With a 50amp protector in this scenario then you could use all 50amps.

If you are concerned if the pedestal only supports 30amps, then use a dogbone -- Your connection would be 30amp predestal --> dogbone --> 50amp protector --> 50amp camper == thus able to use 30amps.

If your camper is set up for 30 amp (a 23 MBH is 30 amp) then get a 30 amp protector. You can still hook up to a 50 amp service with a dog bone. 50 amp protectors are really two protection circuits in one package. One for each of the two circuits in a 50 amp service. Since your 30 amp is only one circuit a 50 amp protector would be a waste as the second protection circuit is not even used.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I just was not sure if a 50 to 30 amp dogbone would case a problem for the surge protector
