50amp Voltage Protector Recommendations

Looking for a surge and voltage protector without breaking the bank. I know quality comes with a price, I'm fine with that. I just want the best bang for my buck, no pun intended 😎

I’m a Progressive Industries EMS fan. They’re not inexpensive tho. Excellent warranty and customer service.

X2 on Progressive Industries EMS units. You could go portable or hard wired. Both have their advantages. You have to find a place to install the hard wired unit but there are no worries about it 'walking away' like portable units. Hard wired units also provide you with a digital readout panel. We used a portable unit on our last 3 campers but I installed a hard wired unit in our current camper and it took about 45 minutes. Link:

That's the manufacturer I keep going back to during my research, specifically this one: https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-I.../dp/B01N9MOY7B

We keep our 5th wheel in a resort full-time, so I have the ability to enclose this on our electric pole to keep it more secure. If we were traveling to different parks, I'd probably go with the internal just to keep it safe, but that's not necessarily needed now.

Is there a different model I should be considering than the one I just linked?

I have the SurgeGuard 34850. I have been real happy with it. It gives me a constant readout of the voltage. It is expensive, I guess, but I think it is worth it. It checks the ground, proper wiring, and voltage before it gives you the green light.

GlampinLife,
The unit you're looking at will work fine. Here's some pics of the box I built for our portable unit when we were seasonal. I drilled some holes on top of the side pieces and bottom for ventilation and hot glued screen over those holes from the inside to keep the bugs out. Ran a cable lock thru the aluminum thing on the unit and thru a couple more holes then around the power pedestal.

Progressive is my choice. I have had both and they have a lifetime warranty if you are the original owner. I had the other and lightning destroyed it. They offered to sell me another at a discount.

I probably should have asked this first.

Each lot has their own electric meter, most are houses on the lots, a few lots do not have a house yet (like my lot) for a camper/RV. If I have my own meter, do I still need this? If it is a good idea, why do more houses not use something like this for protection?

I would say it's because it is very expensive if your home has a 200 amp service.

I had a lightning protector wired into my homes meter box 25 years ago and make sure my homeowners insurance is kept in force.. cheap skate.

Either way, $350 is a small investment to keep the 5th wheel safe.

Agree, I feel very exposed if mine is not hooked up.

Agree considering what it would cost to replace all your onboard electronics like tv, ac unit. water heater board, furnace board, fridge, etc. I look at it like a fire extinguisher, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
