The I-pad 3 has a GPS antenna built in. But the accuracy of the unit and performance are greatly reduced if only using the GPS antenna according to the reviews.

The GPS apps use the cellular antennas as a beacon for more accurate and faster locating of your current position. Also there are some neggative reviews of the co-pilots mapping.

I looked into going this direction as well. Still on the fence with the manufacturer and model to choose. Pluses and minuses to every unit, the more I read the more torn I get on them.

LarryG, The 7710 sounds like a great unit. I am sure it will serve you well. They really have come a long way over the years. I bought the Co-pilot after reading the reviews on it. It works similar to my wife's TomTom. The RV function on the Co-pilot will keep you clear of low bridges and propane restricted tunnels and ferries. So far the Co-pilot has been great for me as I'm sure the 7710 will be for you. Just another tool in the bag.

My new 'tool for the bag' arrived today and the features are awesome.

Now to figure out how to mount it in the middle of the dash and give it a road trip.

I don't know if this would work for you but I have one of these weighted GPS mounts and it stays put on the dash at a comfortable height in my truck. Looks like this one might fit the 7710:

I received my Rand McNally TripMaker RVND 7710 yesterday.

Initial impression is great. Took a 60 miles round trip with it. Easy to use. Clear screen.

I think it will do a great job.

Bag arrived yesterday and works great with the RM-7710.

Thanks again for the info.

I have one for my Garmin and it doesn't move. When I don't need it, I tuck it away.

Looks like a great unit. I just opted for the Delorme software that includes the GPS unit LT40. All for less than 50 bucks. Doesn't show RV parks but then I have the GS directory.
