A week in Memphis
The bride and I just returned from a week in Memphis. We stayed in West Memphis (AR) in the "Tom Sawyer RV Park" which is on the Mississippi River. Beautiful spot with nice accommodations. There was a Winnebago tour group passing through. They'd spent about 3 weeks as a group following the river southward. As they were departing it reminded me of a migrating buffalo herd. (BIG coaches!) There was also a Airstream rally meeting there - lotta shiny aluminum.
Anyway here's the "tech" part of the post.
What would make the pilot go out on my water heater? Had to relight twice. I can't see any obvious problems. I don't think it was windy enough to cause problems anthough there was a nice breeze the whole time. The pilot flame looks healthy (nice blue) and the thermocouple looks to be in the right part of the flame (the hot part). My experience with the gas control valves is they work or they don't work. It lights right back up but when there is no hot water in the morning for my lovely bride to wash her face with, it's a problem.

Glad you enjoyed our fair city!
Could be the wind, but sounds more like a thermocouple issue. I assume you are under warranty so I would let your dealer take a look.

You might try cleaning/scrapeing the thermocouple probe. It could have a small corrosion buildup on it.

Yeah, we're still under warranty but if I can solve the problem myself that'd be my first choice. The local Jay dealer is about a 40 mile 1-way trip and I've always had a problem with letting "mechanics" under the hood of any car I've owned and I'm finding I'm the same way with the TT. Over the years I've found very little that I couldn't figure out, not that I'm all that smart but I am persistant.
I've noticed Germantown in your details for quite a while but didn't realize it's one of thge 'burbs of Memphis. We really enjoyed the city (BTW, Elvis said to tell you "hey") and made a visit to Shiloh which was a very enjoyable outing.
Clutch has a good suggestion and I will check that out. Any other readers out there with an idea, chime in.
Unfortunately this was probably our last outing untill Jan or Feb (sometimes winter in South Texas doesn't even call for long pants) so it may be a bit before I can verify the problem solved or not.

Yeah I am the same way on fixing stuff....but have also gotten bit by "voiding" my warranty on stuff...lol...
Glad you enjoyed the town! Lived here 30 years and have never been to Graceland! I personally know the paramedic that responded and the M.E. that did the autopsy ....so I am pretty sure he has left the building....

Sounds like there could be a crack in the thermocouple wire making it an intermittent issue until it gets worse.
That is probably the cheapest thing in the system to replace, so maybe worth a try.
I agree with you the valve part seems to be working if the thermocouple makes it's circuit. Once heated, the wires inside may seperate and open the circuit, shutting off the gas.
I am like you. I'd rather learn my way through something, save money usually and know it's fixed correctly :-)

My problem is that by the time I "learn my way" through something, it ususally ends up costing me more money! :hihi:
