AC-DC Converter has quite noticeable hum

Hi,
I'm in the process of nearly-completely renovating my '87 Jayco. One item that I noted in particular is the noticeable hum that the AC-DC converter makes when connected to AC.

Is this normal? Do new AC-DC converts also make this hum?

Thanks,

Dan

Can't say it's common in newer converters, but the older ones did since the electronics were not as sophisticated. It's a 120v to 12v transformer and a hum is not unusual.

If you're into a full rebuild, it makes sense to upgrade the converter to a 3-stage charger.

X2 on the replacement
The newer three or four stage converters will pay for itself in battery replacement cost over time. I would go for Progressive Industries. They are first class units!!

The transformer is the cause of the hum.

X2, replace the converter.
