Adjusting brakes
So, with a new TT, when should I check the TT brakes for adjustment? And how do I do that? I am a little mechanically inclined so I may be able to check if I have good instructions. Can you help? Thanks.

I would recommended that the wheel bearings be hand packed and the brakes inspected/adjusted very two years or every 10,000 miles (whichever comes first).
It would be very difficult to post a detailed DIY on this process if one isn't familiar with vehicle axle/brake mechanical repair. In many cases proper tools would be required as well. If you have a friend that has done this procedure before and would walk you thru the task on one wheel, it would be very helpful.

Yes rustic eagle, that was a big help! Looks like more than I can handle so I'll have a qualified person check it. How soon should they be checked on a new TT?

Unless your brakes are not working properly you should be able to get by for several years until it's time for a wheel bearing pack. By wheel bearing pack I mean when the bearings are removed, cleaned, inspected, and re greased. That is a good time to clean the dust out of the brakes and then adjust them when the wheels are re installed.

Rustic Eagle,
Just a question. If the newer trailers have EZ-Lube axles, do you not recommend using the EZ-Lube feature and hand packing? I don't know if Havnfun has EZ-Lube or not. I know my White Hawk does. Dexter reccomends re-lubing the axles every 12 months or 12,000 miles in their manual.
For brakes, they recommend checking the brake adjustment after the first 200 miles to make sure there is not excessive clearance due to intial seating of the shoes to the drums. Then every 3000 miles after that. In your experience is every 3000 miles too often?
Still a Newb myself so just reading the manual and had the same questions as Havnfun.

Jayco's recommendations are fine when done properly, but they aren't meant to take the place of a detailed hands-on inspection of all components with the brake drums removed.
Even with Jayco's EZ-lube and brake adjustment time-line, the brake drums should be removed every 2 years or 10,000 miles (which ever comes first) for a complete bearing hand-pack, new seal, magnet and brake inspection.

t2daniel, If you use the ez lube feature be very careful. It is easy to get too much grease in the hub and force it past the seal and into your brakes. I prefer to not use the ez lube.

Yeah I got grease in my drums from the ez lube. Now I just hand pack em, lets you keep an eye on every thing else anyway.

When replacing the seals use double lip seals for added protection. Grease inside the brake drum is not a good thing.
