AGM Battery Replacement

I have a 2011 Greyhawk with a single 12 volt house battery that is too difficult to maintain due to the poorly designed pull out drawer, almost impossible to readily check or add water, plus it's getting older.
Plan to replace it with a maintenance free AGM battery. Any issues with this plan? Does the charging system have to be changed? Thanks.

AGM Battery

You can replace your wet cell battery with an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery without any changes to your unit. As with any vehicle, the charging system must be in good shape. An alternator is a battery MAINTAINER, not a charger. Replaced our M/C battery this year with an AGM, and it works great. The difference is only the design on the innerds that holds the acid.

According to what I've read (cuz I'm getting ready to go AGM) is that the AGMs should be charged at a slightly lower amperage. My three stage inverter is set up correctly so, no worries for me. You may want to do some research on the particular AGM battery you are looking at, then compare with your inverter charge rates. I found the inverter information in my packet of literature from the dealer. Good luck!

The PROGRESSIVE converters that JAYCO is now using work on both AGM and wet cell.

I did finally replace my Greyhawk, Gp 27 wet cell with a Gp 27 AGM. The AGM doesn't seem to hold a charge very well, shortly after unplugging, before starting the engine, the low voltage beeping begins on my CO/Propane detector. I have had to remove the detector due to the beeping irritation.
Haven't been able to take the time to check battery voltage at the posts (in storage now).

When plugged in to shore power the Xantrex reads 13.6 volts. Is this too low for an AGM? I have heard that AGMs require a higher charging voltage.

Where is the Greyhawk battery charger located? And can the charging voltage be adjusted up? Does it have an AGM setting?

I'm thinking that the charger for the coach is the Ford chassis charger. Why not, saves duplication.
So maybe I'll either junk the AGM and go back to the unserviceable flooded battery, or replace the Ford battery with an AGM plus replace the charger with an AGM compatible one.
Guess 1st option is cheapest. Just hate not being able to slide battery tray out far enough to add water.

A lot of good information, thank you. Need to visit my Greyhawk, find the converter (it may be under the foot of the bed) and see what make it is. The Progressive units should handle the charging of an AGM. But bronchitis and last nights foot of snow in Sandy, UT will put it off for a while.
