air conditioning in a popup

Hi - I'm looking for information on installing air conditioning in my Jayco popup camper. I have seen a couple photos online of making a wooden support to hold the window A/C outside of an unzipped window on the popup, and also metal strips applied to camper to hold a metal shelf for the A/C to sit on, but that doesn't look as strong. Also saw pipes set into the ground, holding a metal shelf between them for the A/C, just holding it there outside the window. Have also heard of using a portable A/C with vent stuck between the door and the canvas. Does anyone have experience with anything like this? Would rather not cut hole in camper, but don't know how well these other options work. Am living in the camper (since April) while house is being remediated/rebuilt, and weather is getting hot here in southern CA, now. Thank you.

Have you considered a portable A/C unit?
Although it would take up some precious floor space, you'd only need find a way to mount/support the exhaust air tube, not the whole A/C unit.

If you do go portable make sure it is a 2 pipe model. They type with only one exhaust pipe use inside air to vent the heat outside. This cause air to come in through anywhere it can and makes it very hard to cool the RV except right in front of the blower.

I have one for a porch in Florida and it works well on 15 amp AC but it does take up quite a bit of floor space.

You may also have a popup that came prepped for roof AC. Basically the roof is reinforced, you have to cut a hole and put in the wiring . Big $ if a dealer does it. Might be cheaper to trade up?

Should have taken a picture over the 4th. I have seen this guy a couple times. He has am old PU. He uses a window AC. It is 100% outside. He built up a light weight frame, out of some unistrut like material. The legs extend to the ground and at the bottom bungee cord to the wheel. At the top, he uses to web ratch stamps to secure the "shelf" to the wall, by hooking the strap the the shelf, and to the top of the lift system. The AC sits on the shelf.

We tried this when our Seneca AC unit in the front had failed. CW missed the repair dates multiple times and we had tickets to a music event far away. We ducted the exhaust (heat) out the drivers window of the Freightliner driver door.

It was just a tiny bit better than worthless - only working when you stood in front of the output vents.

If you ask where that AC unit is today - we gave it away!

This was our solution for AC on the old pop up. Used 2 large stainless hooks that bolted though the cap. No other changes were required to the pop up.

The hanging rack had spring clips on 3/8ths rod that held the AC unit to the rack and that hung off the hooks. The rack would break down easily for storage.

Added loose canvas to seal the screen off. Controls could be operated through the screen.

Worked great for us.

A/C

Thank you to all who replied to my question about air conditioning a Pop-up Jayco camper. We built a wooden stand to hold it up to the window, but are still trying to seal it off.
