Alfa WiFi Camp-Pro (Original) speed tests

I recently upgraded the firmware in our Alfa R36 (part of the Alfa WiFi Camp Pro package) and did some speed tests at home. I'm running the ".29" firmware which is apparently the latest.

Step 1 - Connect to my Main Home Router (no R36 in path):
* laptop WiFi -> Netgear
* Download 47 Mbps Upload 4 Mbps

Step 2 - Put the R36 in the middle:
* laptop WiFi -> R36 WiFi -> Netgear
* Download 6 Mbps Upload 4 Mbps

I have a second Access Point at Home that's a router that's a little bit older and slower.

Step 3 - Connect to 2nd Access Point (no R36 in path):
* laptop WiFi -> Older Netgear
* Download 15 Mbps Upload 6 Mbps

Step 4 - Put the R36 back in the middle again:
* laptop WiFi -> R36 WiFi -> Older Netgear
* Download 3 Mbps Upload 3 Mbps

You can see that adding the R36 in the middle drops the speeds to about 1/5th of what it could be. Much more of a hit that the 50% drop that's theorized.

The R36 is semi-optimized, but I haven't played with all of the settings.
I may kick it back to factory defaults and run the tests again.

[ Speedtests were 1 rep, not several averaged. I'm lazy... ]

Well - there's EGG on my Face!!!

I just reset the Alfa to factory defaults are redid Step 2!

Step 1 - Connect to my Main Home Router (no R36 in path):
* laptop WiFi -> Netgear
* Download 47 Mbps Upload 4 Mbps

Step 2 - Put the R36 in the middle (AFTER RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS):
* laptop WiFi -> R36 WiFi -> Netgear
* Download 16 Mbps Upload 5 Mbps

So the moral here is two fold: the penalty of the R36 isn't as bad as I thought and second, never let me try to "fix" something that's not broken!!!
