atwood furnace need help tonight

Ok need some help, were out camping first time in our new 287 bhsw it is getting down to low 40's upper 30's so i know how to turn on the furnace, it works good but not sure exactly how to set the temp. On top is the on off switch on the bottom is a small lever that goes from one side to the other, i thought that was the thermostat but i put it all the way to the left and heater keeps going, anyone know what im doing wrong? It is a 2016 with a atwood hydro flame furnace

Here is the operations manual. http://bryantrv.com/docs2/docs/hflamefurn04.pdf

There are several different type of thermostats.

You should have a thermostat mounted somewhere on the wall, I have never seen a furnace that has the temp selection located on it.

Give it a bit time to run, it might be cool enough in the unit to run on the lowest setting for awhile.

I would pull the Tstat cover and make sure the wires are in place on the correct terminal. They are just 12 volt wires so no need to worry about getting shocked. Have you used the furnace in the past, did it work like it should cycle on and off.

I`m thinking it has to be a bad or improperly wired Tstat if it will not cycle off on the lowest temp setting.

What is the top switch for? Sounds like a short on the switch. Do you have any test equipment like a vom?

You can pull the cover off, somwtimes there a little hard. It's a bimetal spring that makes contact, my guess it's bent or a screw or other contaminate is keeping it open.

If it's damaged beyond field repair, turn it off for the night. Then if you get up to go to the bathroom turn it on for a few minutes, and then turn it back off when you go back to bed.

Long term replace it with a digital thermastat. You can get one from home Depot type store, you do have to pay attention as not just any thermastat will work with these furnaces. All you are doing is completing the circuit with this thermastat. There is no power feed.

The anticipator, little slide on the top left, may need to be adjusted down as well.

It sounds like the Bi-Metal coil spring was stuck or is binding. Check the mounting screws to see if they are too tight. Something is causing it to bind. You should not have to adjust the brass screw.

Glad to hear you have got it to go off but it probably will happen again if you can't get it to move freely.

Adjusting the anticipator voids the warranty though. Most likely not the anticipator.
