Atwood gas electric water heater install

So I have my new water heater installed, previous owner didn't winterize, so the tank burst. Which led to me getting a good deal. Problem is he already removed water heater, and there are 2 wires that weren't the same color. My water heater has green, blue, white, orange. My camper has red, brown, white, orange. I put blue and red together and green and brown, is this correct? I have a 2006 jayco Jay feather, if that helps.

Thanks

Steve

I would NOT rely on wire colors. You MUST KNOW what each wire is actually for. I would recommend you obtain wiring diagrams for BOTH trailers. Jayco is generally pretty good about providing them.

X2 and X3!!!! On making sure of what each and every wire is for AND hooking things up accordingly.

You've got 120VAC for the heater and 12VDC for the control system and +12V signals for mode control.

Best case it won't function or operate 'weird'. Worst case, there is a pile of ash where your trailer used to be.

Break out the DVM and the heater's manual and BE ABSOLUTELY certain of every connection.

The 120v wires were exactly the same, just looking for some guidance for the 12v dci wiring.

Don't bother with the colors since Atwood and Jayco are different companies.

Grab the manual for the new heater and identify each of the inputs:
A) -12
B) Building ground
C) +12V hot at all times
D) +12V use propane to heat the water
E) +12 use 120VAC to heat the water

A and B may be the same

C may not exist.

Using your test light, DVM, VOM, VTVM or TVM find out which RV wires are what vs. frame ground. The control panel switches will help.

Then connect as appropriate.

Ok, thanks.

I'll let you know what I find, in case someone else had the same question later.
