Back-up Camera?

So, about a month ago, the wife and I purchased a 2019 Jay Feather 27RL from a local Bish's dealer.

Got a pretty good deal on it

Anyhow, the previous owner had installed a back-up camera on the rear pre-wired location.

According to the generic Jayco owners manual, there should be an on/off switch in either the control panel or the main bedroom.

Nada! I have checked in every cabinet and the pass through with no luck finding a switch that we didn't know what it was.

I have no clue as to what brand the camera is, as there is no name on the camera or the little monitor.

Is it possible that the previous owners never finished hooking it up? If so, would there be a set of wires behind the control panel for this application?

I suggest you purchase another, they aren't that pricey... you'll get the compatible paired monitor. I selected a Haloview RD10 and it mounts over my truck's rearview mirror... since I can't really use it when towing, seemed like easiest solution and I don't need another screen mounted on my dash... you may have a screen for TPMS and another for GPS plus your phone. But whichever you pick, you can remove what you have and connect the new camera to the wires previously used and trust it's gonna work. One thing I learned was my trucks headlights needed to be on. My lights are always on 'automatic' but that didn't work, they needed to be manually on 'ON' then the camera worked.

Hmm, never thought about trying it with the lights on. I tried with the truck in reverse, thinking that it was powered through the reverse lights.

I'll give that a shot, and if that doesn't work, I'll look at getting a different camera and monitor.

On mine, the manual talks about a switch inside, but only if you add the switch and also hook it up to the spare wire, otherwise it is wired to the marker lights. Using the switch, it is on whether you are towing or not, if the switch is on. Idea is security use, or perhaps those who simply don't want to run the parking lights on their tow vehicle. A lot of videos on camera installation say at one point "I don't know what that other wire is for."

I'm planning to change my F150 programming so the parking lights are on with the DRLs.

I pulled the control panel and there is a single purple wire behind the panel.

I'm wondering if that is it?

If it is, I've no idea what I'd use for the second wire? Just pull power from another wire?

Not many people go for the switch option, which is why the switch itself is not installed. I don't recall the color of the wire (which I didn't use) but the videos usually refer to a purple wire they don't know what to do with.

On edit: I didn't understand, and thought you were talking about the second wire at the camera. You have several hot sources behind that panel that you could grab the power from.

Apparently orange or purple are standard. Attached is a PDF I got somewhere (probably here) of the Furrion install, which applies whether the camera is Furrion or not.

From the sounds of it, it would appear that the marker lights just need to be on.

If that's the case, then that would work fine.

I report back once I test that.

Oh, I didn't know you had the Monitor.. lol, sorry. Okay, if it still doesn't work, if your camera is a Haloview and if your truck is a newer Chevy or GMC ? If all that is true, you may likely need a booster. I did and once I plugged it inline everything worked.

No, I don't have a later model GM. I have an ole 96 Suburban and a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins.


And, a quick test with the running lights on and nothing is working yet.

That's just the thing, there is no make on the monitor or camera.

It looks like this cheap China made one here:

Interesting. There are dozens like this, mine looks just like that one but is "Amtifo" brand and ever cheaper on Amazon than that one and there are cheaper ones than Amtifo. I just hadn't seen one that didn't advertise its brand. Does the monitor come on with a message that it can't connect? If not, the problem is with the monitor. If it does, hit the menu button (which likely won't say menu, but won't be up, down, ok, left, right, or other obvious actions) and look for a pairing option.

Yes, the monitor does come on and says "Welcome" for a few seconds and then it displays "Lost Link" and that's it.

Hmm, didn't think about the pairing. I'll give that a try.

One thing, when I turned on the running lights, I didn't notice any kind of light on up at the camera. Should there be a light on?

Also, to activate the running lights, I used a 30 amp fuse and did the jump hack on the 7 pin trailer plug. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Found the pairing on the monitor and bingo, it started working!!!

So, for anyone else wondering how to get the pre-wired Jayco back-up camera working;
You need to have the running lights on. This powers the camera on. Then, as DonBr stated, check for the pairing option on your monitor.

Glad it worked out! As far as lights on the camera, most of them do not have a power light. They have infrared that you can probably see at night - I've never had mine on at night to check. I go out of my way not to drive at night.

The menuing on these things leaves a lot to be desired. On mine, only after communicating with Amtifo did I learn that adjustments of the parking lines is not in the menus - it is done by using the plus button to choose M H and W, then the minus button to adjust. M is left-right, H and W are what you would expect. It is not in the manual, and it is not in the YouTube Amtifo video about installing my particular model.

I have a 2021 27RL. My camera was plug n play but you have to have the truck lights on for it to work.

Yeppers. DonBr helped me kind of figured that out.

I used a 30 amp fuse and did the trailer light jump hack and found that out.

Although, until he mentioned that I might have to "pair" the monitor and camera again, I wasn't sure it was working.

All good now.
