Battery replacement

I'm replacing two 12v batteries with just one 12v battery. When I took the 2 out I noticed that neither were connected by a black cable (pos). Was this done because the battery is in tandem with the truck battery? Or is this possibly why my batteries didn't work? Excuse the total ignorance...guess I have no business owning a fifth wheel!

Your batteries didn't work because they were not connected. Your batteries should still be good, just get a cable to connect them.

had the batteries checked...they are doorknob dead! and all the black cables were just hanging there from the batteries. So is the correct way to wire: black (pos) from left side (fuse side of compartment) to pos. on battery and neg. (white) to back wall connection? Just don't want to blow up the fuses or truck battery by connecting wrong.

If you are going back with just one battery, yes.....black wire to positive terminal and white to negative terminal.

thanks! by the way, we live in the boonies and I have tried so many sources for this simple advice. Not even Interstate Battery would take a look (liability, I guess). Had an appointment today at an auto body shop 30 mins. away and just knew they would charge a fortune to hook a black wire!!!!

If this is a 2016, and there was a wiring issue, contact the dealer that installed the batteries. They may be the cause of it. Interstate prorates their batteries for replacement, so you may be able to get some money back from the place you purchase your battery from.
