Battery wiring

I have a 1998 Jayco eagle so. The battery wiring has been disconnected. I have one red wire running from converter up to the battery compartment. Can someone explain to me how I come off of that wire to hook up the battery and what other wiring I need in place? Or just some pics of maybe how it is supposed to look. Have searched for videos online on how to wire up the battery but none go into enough detail. Any help is appreciated.

you need at least two wires. One hot and one negative. black/white or Red/black. shoyuld be two eyelet rings on the ends. You need a battery with studs sticking up to attach the battery with nuts.

The red wire connects to the battery positive, connect a black cable of the same AWG gauge as the red wire to the battery negative and attach the other end to the RV frame.

There is no reason on earth the black needs to be the same gauge as the red!

Seriously, run a 18awg to ground and let me know what happens, IMHO, needs to be at least the same gauge or larger.

Agreed but you never mentioned a gauge......you simply said the "same gauge"! Seriously, it doesn't have to be the same gauge! Seriously!!!

To the OP, 8 gauge is good.

Why not...............it doesn't have to be the same gauge.....period. Now if the reply would have said "at least the same gauge" as the red...............that would have been a correct statement! All you want!

Thank you for the responses. My only other question is should I put an inline fuse on the negative wire?

Did you look down under the battery tray or look around under the rig for the negative cable? I find it hard to believe that there isn't one. Maybe it just got tucked down or fell underneath that area.

Never put a fuse in AMY ground system. You all ways want a ground return path. Always.

We try to keep it simple for the newbies in these crowds.

Just to clarify the ground wire needs to be equal to or larger sized wire than the positive. Never make it a smaller wire gauge.

Pretty sure that's what I said..........seems pretty clear to me......."at least the same gauge" means same or larger, the statement doesn't seem to need clarification!
