Black tank flushing techniques
Hi all!
We have a 2016 Jayflight 23MB Elite and have used it a total of 4 times so far... And can't wait to get out again!
I was wondering what others do when flushing their black tanks... So far all I've done is drain the tank, then use the tank flush for what feels like forever (the TP just keeps coming!!)
Do people leve the tank empty till next time, or do you put water and chemicals back in to sit till next time? The trailer will be sitting for about 6 weeks till next trip (unfortunately)
Any tips or personal techniques welcome, always looking to learn!
Also any fresh water tank sanitation tips welcome to!

Put a few gallons in it and anything else you want to add. It will be fine till its full again.

If the dump station does not have a line, I will run the flush for 5+ minutes. After closing the valves, I add water and chemicals to the black tank.
For the gray tank, I also add some chemicals specific for that tank.
for fresh water I sanitize with chlorine about once per two months or so.

Although the directions specifically tell you not to, I close the valve for a little bit and let the flush fill the tank part way to get another good dump. Just don't get distracted while the valve is closed!!

If the station has a line, I hook up the flush first and let it run while the black drains, and also while the gray drains. Usually by then, the debris has slowed down. I have a clear 45 degree elbow that allows me to see what's coming out (for better or worse).
After dumping, every now and then, I'll add several gallons of water, a cup of laundry detergent and a cup of Calgon to slosh around while traveling. If we go on a weekend trip, it will get dumped at the end of the weekend. If it's in there on a longer trip, it gets dumped when we teach the campground that we are staying at do we aren't taking up capacity.

I found that dumping a 5 gal pail of water a couple of times works better than flushing. More volume shakes things up. Dump the tank, close valve, then fill using bucket, dump and repeat.

Angling the trailer towards the dump station ensures that the tank drains completely. The last station I visited had very uneven ground.

We do the black tank flush for a few minutes and then put about 5 gallons of water with a cup of calgon and deodorizer in, all for the trip home. The sloshing around helps loosen up anything that may have been stuck. I have found that this has cleared my tank indicator lights to now show empty! We also had a problem in the 102 degree weather with an odor from the kitchen sink. Put some soap and deodorizer specifically for that and it did the trick.

We dump a 20lb bag of ice in ours right before we start on our trip home. The solid pieces of ice agitate the solids and then melt.
No harsh chemicals.

Thanks everyone for the tips, I will take all under advisement for sure! I'll also look for this Calgon stuff... I want to keep these tanks in top shape!
What brands of tank treatment do others use? I'm not sure the brand I'm useing right now, they are blue packets that the RV parts guy sold me...

Calgon, take me away! Who remembers that?
We have heard of Calgon for the geo method. Have not tried it yet but need to because our tanks are a little stinky at beginning of trips even though we flushed them and added a packet of stuff.

X2, but, I go inside and shine a flashlight down the tank while holding the foot pedal open. I can watch the water swirl, see TP swirling around, etc. When it hits to the bottom of the pipe, I go outside and open the valve. I do this 2vtimes and my tank is clean.
My family knows NOT TO DISTRACT ME while I am messing with the pottie in any way. ��
