Brake Upgrade

I want to upgrade the 184BH brake size (3000 axle) and purchased a new brake backing plate kit (3500 axle 10" x 2.25" w/shoes) but not the 2.25” drums. I understand the spindle size will determine the correct drum for existing bearings. I don’t know the spindle size and any info for the conversion is appreciated, Thnx!!

There should be a sticker on the center of the axle which will give you the model number info, crawl under and take a picture of it. Then you can see if parts are available to complete the upgrade

Got it, Thnx Sundancer! ...looks like I need inner bearing LM67048 to convert 3000 to 3500 Dexter brakes.

I need bearings and understand Timken is good. I read Autozone offers Duralast that is made by Timken. It’s less money and available immediately. What’s your opinion on quality between the two, is there a difference (may depend on country of origin)?

I buy the Timkens on Amazon, they have always been Made in USA. Timken like many companies will make a private label bearing to the specs the buyer wants. So a company like Duralast may spec at a lower quality level than the Timkens are known for. For something like bearings I will spend a few extra dollars to give me piece of mind they aren't going to fail anytime soon and ruin my vacation.

Thanx Sundancer, I ordered Timken. Hopefully finish the job next week before the snow flys.

. Update-Conversion won’t work, everything is interchangeable except for the inner bearing. So back to replacing brake shoes.
