Can someone tell me.....

If the black part in the picture is the water heater check valve? And if so is there anything I need to know about removing it besides draining the tank??

Very hard to tell from the picture. What’s your objective? If it’s a CV, nothing special about it just unscrew it.

There is no check valve on the hot side, if you are asking about where the red line connects, it's just a nipple.

You are right, I asked several times AND then finally it got answered!


The black part is the check valve. I took it out and going to pick up a new brass one today. This plastic one looks fine but it does feel pretty cheap. I'm hoping the new brass one solves the problem.
